If you could have a great experience shopping for a dress with your friends and family in a really chic bridal shop., but pay $500 to $2500 for top designer wedding dress (Vera Wang, Amsale, Monique L. etc) because it was "worn once" aka luxury consignment ..would you buy a dress at this shop? or buy a new one at a wedding boutique for $4000 to $8000? (All dresses from happy brides, worn once, professionally cleaned etc)

  1. Save your money and buy at the consignment shop by all means!  I volunteer at a thrift store and buy lots of clothing for myself and my husband there - get good clothing at wonderful prices.

  2. I would buy used.  I mean it's only been worn once (most likely) and it's professionally cleaned.  As much as I would love to have a brand new designer Vera Wang dress I don't want to go broke in order to do so.  I would look at as having an amazing dress and more money to spend on my honeymoon, or be able to invite more people to my wedding.  I'm not sure if cost is an issue for your wedding (it is for mine).

  3. Buy the cheaper used ones.

  4. Absolutely, and wouldn't think twice about it.  You get a gorgeous gown at a fraction of the cost, and the quality is what you want as well.  And, I work as a bridal consultant in a bridal boutique.

  5. Of course I would.  The money you save on the dress could be put on flowers or a number of other things.

  6. I would and I did.  I got a wonderful buy from a place on the web. Everything they said about the gown was true. It was just what I had envisioned being married in. I was the happiest bride in the world for two reasons. One I saved alot of money on my gown and 2 I married the most wonderful man in the world. Sorry girls...he's taken and I'm not letting anyone get any ideas about him. The place I got my gown is Bridal Gowns Used. I think the site is www.bridalgownsused.com  It is the place for good, clean, inexpensive wedding gowns and other stuff.

  7. When it comes to weddings I'm a bit superstitious, but if all the brides were happy in their marriages then I'd definitely buy a once worn dress.

  8. id go for the used ones.

YOu can make it a bit different by adding accessories and such.

  9. i would buy a used one.  but i buy used clothes and dont have a problem with wearing clothes other people have worn.

im sure some people will say that it is bad mojo to wear a used dress on YOUR special day, and if you feel that way, get a new one.

however, i myself am very pragmatic and say that ... a lot of other stuff on that day will have seen weddings also... like the church, reception space, tuxedos, etc.

    congrats on your engagement!

  10. If you find a dress you like, I don't think it matters if it's been used. Really, spending 8000$ on a dress that you're only going to wear once is completely ridiculous.

  11. Why not buy a used one as long as it is in good condition? You are only going to wear it once and no one will know the difference.

  12. Buy the less expensive new one. That sounds like a great deal. With the economy the way it is, just get what you love cheaper. Don't forget to get your bridal lingerie, undergarments, and shoes.

  13. Sure, having a designer gown wasn't important to me, but if it was and funds were limited, I'd pay maybe up to $1000 if it was in mint condition. But it would have to be in mint condition and it would have to be otherwise perfect (in fit, my taste, etc.).
