  1. I bought a fuel efficient car (Prius) and save electricity as much as possible, mainly to reduce my personal greenhouse gas emissions (save the environment).  Buying the Prius certainly didn't save me money, but reducing my electric bill does.

  2. I do it just to save money. One person or even a million won't make a difference in what they do to try to help the environment when countries like China do what they want with pollution.

  3. just one thing to state: SKODA OCTAVIA TDI !!!

not even a hybrid but I really get slightly over 45MPG !!!!

And it has pick-up... d**n and for 16,000€ new, what more do you want ?

  4. I like to be able to do it for both reasons, personally.  Being able to save some $$ to be able to help the environment is a great thing.  If it costs a whole lot more to save the environment, then Im less inclined to do so.

  5. Alot of people love their smog, acid rain, etc. The only thing that seems to make them want to reduce their production of it is through economic incentives such as rising energy costs, though this doesn't necessarily work. Remember when people were saying they would reduce the amount they drove when gas went above $2 a gallon? We've been there for years. Here we are at $3 and how many people have really changed their ways?

I bought a hybrid, changed my electric supplier to wind power, installed a few CFLs, and other steps for:

a healthier society (which I am a member of)

our economy long term (which I may need to feed off of in my older years)

the Earth (I breathe the air, drink the water, enjoy the scenery)

financial investment (most enviro-friendly decisions cost more up front but I believe I will save money in the long run) and

because it felt like the right thing to do and it gives me a warm & fuzzy feeling.

These are all selfish reasons, but I do it becasue it is what I believe in.

  6. I wouldnt buy the car

    I save on electricity

    Contribute to help the environment

and Prefer to ride my bike or Rollerblade

  7. I agree with the first person who answered. Since the environmental scare tactics of left-wing liberals is just a farce, then the ONLY reason I would buy a fuel-efficient car is to save money.

In the meantime, I will continue to drive my gas-guzzling, carbon-emitting, V8 Hemi, truck so I can run over the whimpy hybrids.

  8. No, I would not buy a fuel efficient car because they are soooo expensive I'd be shelling out more $$$$$ just for the car than I would for gas on the car I have. And no, I would not be saving in the long run because do you realize how long it would take to get your money back from buying the car just by saving a few cents here and there on gas? I know a couple who did buy one and had to get rid of it because the payments were killing them. Maybe years from now whenever they decide to bring the price down, I will buy one.

Now, on saving electricity... I'm all for that. I already don't use the A/C unless I absolutely need to. And the TV is off when not in use (some people keep it on constantly even when not paying attention to it). You get the picture.

  9. not "save" the environment, but rather help save the humans, considering we may be wiped off the face of the planet due to global warming, but the planet will go on to exist for many more millions of years....

  10. Both really.  Its really hard to cost justify a Prius at the moment but how about a Corolla?  I purchased 2 of them about 3 years ago for $14,500 each.  That's not much more than buying a single Prius.  I was able to milk 42 mpg out of it on a recent trip.  I hear hybrid prices will come down so maybe my next purchase will be a hybrid.   Regarding electricity, I had a $360 electric bill one month last summer.  That was a killer for me.  I am watching my usage more carefully now.

  11. Since I don't believe that the environment needs saving, I think it is a scam, I would do it to save money.

  12. Both, I am looking at the most efficient car that I can afford presently, hoping to buy a Prius, but may end up with a Yaris due to cost constraints. I have changed all my light bulbs to CFLs and am seeing an improved electric bill each month. I really do like saving money whenever possible.
