  1. the only pets i bought from pet shops were goldfish, hamsters and budgies ( there's no where in my area that deal with rescued ones)  My two dogs and cat were all from rescue organisations.I do think it's better to adopt a rescued animal as they deserve a second chance in life and there are so many pets in shelters looking for a loving home to go to.

  2. You are very right not to want to buy from a pet store. By from a reputable breeder, not a backyard breeder or better yet a rescue.  There are so many animals that need a good home and many pure breeds out there to that will cost you a tenth of the price of a pet store.  Good luck with your new pet!!

  3. No never.

  4. depends what animal it is really

  5. I agree with you.

My friend bought a rabbit from 'Pets at home' a couple of years back, the rabbit had quite a few problems, everytime someone went near it, the rabbit would snap and try to protect itself by biting whoever came near it. If you ask me it is because they are caged up day after day with children shouting "look at the cute rabbit!"

I personally don't think pet shops should be able to sell animals.

  6. I absolutely agree, with the possible exception of tropical fish, and reptiles.

Many states, however, have laws that require pet stores to have their livestock examined by a local vet regularly, like weekly or so.

  7. i got my hamsters from petshops they all died young but my guinea pigs from a breeder and they are still gowing strong

i would prefer to get dogs and cats from registered breeders so i know the cat just didn't get pregnent from so cat in the street or well i wouldn't mind to much with dogs aslong as i could see both parents

the only problem with pet shop pets is they are often in small cages

and also they are often not got from breeders but got fom peoples whos pets were pregnant and they jusdt gave the babies to the pet shop  but i do lik epet shps

with rescue shelters yo u don't know what the animal went  throught before it was their but you know it has had good care up to you in the shelter but them they are always checking up with dogs etc

  8. I buy straight from breeders, you get to know the history of the familly, medical conditions ect.

  9. So far my family has gotten 2 Guinea pigs and three mice from a pet store... but we're never going there again!  The way they treat their animals is just awful.  And my guinea pig was pregnant!  Some pet stores are okay though.  Unfortunately the next nearest pet store is in the next county.  And all their fish are diseased!

However, pet stores can be a great place to buy pets, if the owners know what they are doing.  Some pet stores are just plain awful.

Rescue centers and pounds are also great, although they can have their downsides.  Many great pets can be found here.

  10. I would never get a pet from a pet shop or breeder as both support the cruel pet trade and do not care about the animals welfare,  I have 7 animals and all have been adopted from my local animal rescue centre.

  11. i got most of my pets from pet shops but only cause i dont know any breeders and there are no sheltars around me that have rodents =/ it was just the easiest thing to do!

  12. yes just probly not fish or herment crabs (bad experience)

  13. i would never ever buy a puppy from a pet store because they get them from puppy mills... heres a website- http://stoppuppymills.org/

  14. No, because then you are supporting places like puppy mills, where animals are kept in horrible conditions and used for breeding only.

I agree with  you and prefer independent breeders or rescue shelters.

  15. i think it is ok to buy one in the pet shop but I understand your point.I recently bought one from the pound that is super intelligent and someone had taught him obedience.(he is house trained)

  16. we had our dog from the rescue centre and have had her 3 years now and she is brilliant, they give vaccinations and micro chip them now and there are so many animals out there that are abandoned and abused its heartbreaking

  17. It all depends on the animal, dogs are better from breeders, fish for petshops, reptiles from either, birds from petshop, hamsters for petshop, it just depends but its always nice to go to a rescue place or animal shelter

  18. you can buy them from anywhere

  19. i bought my dog from a rescue centre but i bought my rabbit and guinea pig from a pet shop

  20. fish, hamsters, rabbits would be ok, but defintely not dogs or cats

  21. I did it once, and i regret it. It was a cat, a siamese female. It was my dream to get one of this kind of cat but she was already ill but i didn't know. She died seven years later but to me and i hope, to her, it was the best time of my life. I like siamese cats and they are not easy to find them in centres for abandonned animals.

  22. i would buy little animals but not like dogs and cats

  23. NO.....alot of times the dogs are from puppy mills and alot of them are very sick.  Fish small animals ok but not dogs and cats.

  24. You should buy it from the pet shop. They usually train them and take care of them......it depends

  25. i bought my kitten from the pet shop.

  26. i try to rescue every pet i want, i rescued my gerbils, rescued my staffy x mastiff, and rescued my 2 cats, its more rewarding when you rescue your pet, as you know you can give it the love that nobody else could or even want to, its a shame that so many animals are bought just fot the sake of it then you see them abandoned or stuck in a family who doesnt want it really and it just get neglected

  27. I have in the past.  Just small animals, fish or birds though.  I wouldn't buy cats or dogs from Pet Shops, as I would much rather get them from a rescue centre.

    *SL

  28. NOT breeders.. rescue centres yes. All keeping of pets should be gradually fazed out.. sorry but too many are neglected, abused cruelly and killed to make it worthwhile.

  29. i feel sorry for the animals in pet shops, unloved, and under-cared for by the staff who are just there for work, and not for the passion of the job to look after animals. most if not all the staff haven't a clue what there doing and just work there to fund there friday and Saturday night out, or school fee's.

it's real difficult to leave animals in there care. they need rescuing from the morons.

but i prefer breeders, or a rescue animal,. pet shops are highly overpriced and you don't know if your getting a healthy animal or not. especially if it's a specialist/tropical animal.

  30. never... infact I dont even like buying supplies from stores that sell animals...

  31. i have never bought anything from a pet shop, I like breeders.
