  1. These people  are being absolutely silly, j*p brands charge a lot for the name. I would not by any thing from main land china but Kymco and Hyosung come from Taiwan and are as good and in a lot cases better than you j*p scooters. They have warranty's that they honor a good dealer ship network and are very high   quality machines. There is some other Genuine and Derbi and Buddy  also Stella. Any one of these is  good choice. I personally would not buy a j*p brand. when you have things like the Kymco xciting 500 that out performs the Burgman 650 and people trade them on the  Kymco that says a lot.1300 might be a little low the Kymco     Agility 50 is something like 1500 suggested price and gets 100 or better MPG

  2. I would be very wary of no-name Chinese and Taiwanese scooters.  I would stick with the Japanese brands.  But you could find a good used one for $1300.

Scooters are a good transportation alternative.  They're very easy to ride and good for newbies.  They are safer, I think, only because of the way they're ridden.  They do get very good gas mileage.  The ones that go 65 mph are the bigger ones (150cc) and probably won't get 100 mpg, but might get 60-70 mpg.

  3. Not many scooters will go 65 mph AND get 100 mpg. They may advertise that but I haven't found any that actually will. The scooter I have (i retired my motorcycles) will top out at about 50mph and I get around 75-80 mpg. However 50 mph on those little wheels gets your attention. It is a Yamaha 125 cc Vino.

The cheaper scooters are Chinese made and the jury is still out on the reliability of them. The best are still Japanese and European made. Find out where the one you are looking at was made. You get what you pay for!

Small scooters are fine for running errands around town or going to class, they definitely don't belong on the freeways or fast moving highways.

If you live in a northern climate you can expect to put it away when winter comes. Most states require a license to drive anything 50cc's or bigger. That means taking a test. 49cc mopeds are inexpensive to buy and operate, they will get 100mpg or so. But they will only go approximately 30mph. There are ways to modify them to go faster but that is another subject.

There are lots of variables in scooters so it is hard to say just how good a deal that is. I'm guessing it is one of the Chinese made machines that are sold under a variety of names. You may have good luck with it or you may have the luck my friend had, and that was a never ending series of problems. The thing left him stranded several times. He sold it (at a loss) and bought a Honda.

  4. The person above who thinks Chinese brands and Taiwanese brands are equal is an idiot.

Taiwan brands are very high quality, great warranty, great bikes.  Try Kymco.

  5. Only if it a major brand (like Honda, Yamaha, etc.)  Cheap no-name brands will last your 2 month (if that long).

Also most scooters (at 50cc range) does NOT go 65 MPH.  they are limited by LAW to about 20 to 30 mph.

    Good Luck...
