Question:

Would you buy an Electric Car if..?

Say I had a business selling electric cars with in-garage chargers and outdoor protective extension leads (could be locked so they cannot be stolen), lets say the power for your home was done via Solar and Wind, and that it did not take long to charge your car, around 3 hours. Lets also say the car looked like a stunner, and was also very cheap and you gave it a test go, and it was really slick and relaxing with the maximum speed of 80mph and a mile range of 500.

Would you buy it?

  1. I am all about exploring alternative modes of transportation to ween America off its oil dependency, but I would have to see the vehicle, including all specs and do further research concerning cost of having solar and wind power in my home, before deciding if it would be right for me in the long-term.

One thing that I look forward to being a proactive participant in is testing these vehicles in various conditions.  Get me a concept car and I'll gladly test it out for three months.  I'll even provide a written report of personal feelings including pros and cons along with any other pre-designed evaluation of the vehicle by a manufacturer and/or insurance company.

  2. I have a family of 5. It would need to be able to carry all of us plus luggage.  Would need to be able to drive for about 8 hours before recharging.  Figure the cost for your vehicle about the same as a Ford Explorer for average people like me to be able to buy it.   Just for kicks, make the battery removable as an option so it could be charged in doors.

  3. Absolutely!

  4. Probably but yet again that is with a very over ideal set of things going on. But yes if coincidently everything was like that yes I would. However, it would depend on price most importantly.

  5. yes definetely. its better for the earth and it looks good, but it would havew to have lots of sadety options.

  6. Anyone can say..........Let's see.

    Let's see.

    Show me.

    Tell me..........The Price.

  7. depends on how much it costs

  8. no you could buy a better one somwhere else!

  9. you said it was cheap and looked good so h**l yea

  10. maybe if i get a driver's liscense

  11. only if it had the same price as a gas powered car, I'm not paying 800,000 dollars to save gas

  12. anything that doesn't need gas.

    the gas it too high!

  13. YES DEFINETLY

  14. name the price

  15. I was gonna say "what kind of a stupid question is that?" but I realize that even at those stats, there are people who'd find a reason to complain. they just hate the very concept of EV's

me, i'd buy it in a heartbeat if it got half of what you say =D

also, headtate. the Volt is no longer electric, it's just a Hybrid/gas car now.

  16. If I could get one for less than $5000.

  17. Possibly. They are getting close. Two words: Chevy Volt.

  18. lol why wouldn't I? That'll save like a million in gas money. And if this house was realli getting powered like that, that's sweeeeeettt.

  19. Is this a trick question?  What's not to love? Sign me up for that one.  A concern I've had about electric cars is where the power comes from, since it's probably a coal plant that's supplying electricity to my home.  Of course you say it's cheap.  We all have our definitions of cheap, but yeah, I think most people would love a car like that.

  20. yes, i would.

  21. DEF FA SHO.

    Yes, I would buy it.

  22. Nope, don't like the sound of an electric car!

  23. Can it make a cup of coffee in the morning?

  24. yes! that would be cool i think

  25. yes.

  26. No.I need something that gets 34 hwy and will run across country, and burn free fuels.

  27. Yeah....Maybe....

  28. For sure i would!

  29. Absolutely, as long as it was less than $25k or $30k or so, not including the price of the solar/wind system for the house.

The only things that would even slightly concern me would be:

    1) Might not be good on road trips longer than 500 miles, since I don't want to stop for 3 hours just to charge it, and where would I find a place to charge it.  However, for a 2-car household, just take the other car if you're going on long trips, so this isn't a problem for me.

    2) With today's battery technology, to get 500-mile range, the car would have to be ridiculously light, which is a safety concern with all the semis and SUVs out there.

But I'd still buy it, absolutely.  I'm thinking about the Tesla BlueStar or the Think Ox when/if those start being sold in the US.

  30. yes, if I could afford it, however I wouldn't really care how it looked, as long as it was presentable.

  31. hmmm - i'd be pushing the speed limitations of the car very very often but ... im getting older anyway - so... yea i would
