If I could afford it, absolutely.  Electric cars are the transportation of the future.  They're extremely efficient, environmentally friendly, and fun to drive (high torque!).  Once they become more popular, the economics of scale will take over and they'll become more affordable.  There's already a $20k highway speed EV available in the Green Vehicles Triac.

The Tesla Model S will still be too expensive.  It's specs are more than adequate for what I'd need an electric car for, however.  

I think a national effort to bring the cost of the batteries down would likely, potentially,  put such cars in reach of many if not most americans, and would be well worth while.
