Question:

Would you buy any additional frills to your kitchen cabinets? Like slide out drawers, pantry pull-outs etc.?

I'm in the middle of designing my kitchen (Thomasville cabinets), they have so many various options when it comes to personalizing the kitchen cabinets.

I want to know from the people who really use their kitchen on a daily basis, what they would want to have or something that would make your life easier in an organizational sense?

You can check the site if you want

Thanks in advance

  1. At our other home we had all the pull out drawers and in the pantry and it was wonderful. I really miss it at this home. I hate having to lean and crouch way down to reach my pans in the back.

Also these cabinets don't have k***s or pulls and I really miss that too because your cabinets get so yucky from grabbing on the wood.

  2. oh, yeah, if I could afford it, I totally would.

the top one would be the pull out trash drawer. But all the pull out drawers are awesome.

  3. I think it would be super convenient to have the slide out drawers and anything that makes organization easier.

  4. Sabrina, my fellow kitchen designer, is dead-on in her response.  Here are a few related thoughts:

If your budget is stretched right now by your cabinetry purchase, you can add some goodies later on, with careful planning.  For example, if you purchase butt door cabinets (without center stiles), it will be easy to add roll-outs later on, in most cases.

You can also add a pull-out trash can after the fact, if you plan adequate space for it, typically an 18" minimum width cabinet.  (My clients who don't have room for a dedicated pull-out cabinet, typically put a pull-out trash can under the sink.)  Drawer organizers can be added later, as well.

I've got some additional storage tips that may help in your planning:

Good luck with your project!  (When I designed at Home Depot, my Thomasville clients were always happy with how their kitchens turned out!)

  5.    I installed slide out drawers in all the base cabinets. What a pleasure! I also had all double width drawers installed, which makes it easier to divide them your way.

If you have the room, a slide out waste basket is very nice.On the wall cabinet, a spice rack is a great space saver. 8/26

  6. As a kitchen designer, I'll tell you the toys that my clients use most...Roll Out Trays, Super Susans, Pull-Out Waste Baskets.  Interior items for cabinets are usually very expensive b/c they are often made by 3rd party companies. So, there is a markup from the retailer, the cabinet manufacturer & the manufacturer of the gadgets. Other items that I find useful, but not necessary to order with your cabinets are cutlery dividers, spice organizers (the pull-out versions are more useful than the drawer inserts but very $$$), and knife blocks.  Most of the other stuff really depends on how you use your kitchen.  I have a client who has a kitchen aid mixer & uses it all the time to grind her own meat.  She got a mixer stand in her base cabinet & she loves it.  She also has a bad back, whereas I use mine once a month at best, so not necessary.  I think the lid organizers are useless, you can get an insert at a box store for much cheaper that does the same thing.  Pantry cabs are OK, but you usu can't put heavy things on the back s of the doors. That whole recipe center is overpriced.  You don't need a pull-out drawer for trays, a simple full-height door base cabinet with a tray divider is just as useful & much less $$$.  Really, the most useful thing are the roll-out shelves.  Good Luck!
