We know caged chickens living in cramped conditions, never seeing the light of day have a far shorter and reduced lifespan - they suffer greatly.

Would you pay more for chicken that had had access to a free range and sunlight - A good life?

This question was inspired by Jamie Oliver's show 'Fowl Dinners' which aired on Australian TV last night. I was SO happy to see him do this show!! :-)

  1. Well, the trend states that people will pay more for good life chicken..as they also want to be good..

  2. Yes. We still got to eat. People make way to big of a deal when it come to that stuff. Remember THERE ANIMALS!

  3. And by suffered  you mean forced to only read off Yahoo Answers, h**l no.  Probably complain of the way I looked at them with a fork in my hand.

  4. No. It is a rule of mine to never eat anything that I killed or saw get killed, and It is another rule of mine to not eat one that I know the story of how they got killed.

  5. Not to sound cruel, but yes, yes I would. Let's face it, we all know what is going on. Cows (that includes cow babies) are fattend up just as much as chickens, and the same even goes for pigs, just for us to put them away in these horrible living conditions, and then, we just end up sending them to the slaughter house to get chopped up. Not only that, but after such horrible things are done, they end up packing them into freezers. Let's see now. You've got meat patties from cows, chicken meat, eggs (which could've turned into actual chickens), and we take pig intestense, turn them into hot dogs. Don't forget about bacon, and all of the other delicious foods that we eat.

Oh hey, and don't forget about all those chemicals. You think that they just soak the foods in it? Course not. They feed all of these chemicals to cows and other animals, and let the body process it, and store it in, all so that way they taste better for when we eat them.

Hey though, everyone knows it. It is just that no one actually gives enough of a dam to not eat them. I mean, heck, I just finished a cheeseburger. I'm no model to stand up for animals.

Oh, well then, in order to answer your question, then answer is no, because either way, they are still being stuffed with chemicals and such. Not much of a good life if your just living it to get your head chopped off, now is it. After all, would you want someone to pay more for you all because you got a better life, which then ended up being taken away from you all because someone wants to eat you?

  6. EDIT: Michael P: Every creature has to eat, no-one is saying it is wrong to eat, but the way animals are treated to eat does nothing to improve the quality of our food. In fact, if you think about it, reducing costs through these type of methods, including the chemicals you rightly mention, could be contributing to th epidemic of obesity in western countries!

Watched it too, and all the way through I was so very glad I made the decision to be vegetarian many years ago.

I do eat eggs, free range only, and am making the move to soy milk instead of cows' milk due to the way cows' milk is produced.

The choice is absolutely up to the individual, but I also wonder just how many people would eat meat and meat products if they really understood how it is produced.

The advertising images of smiling cows in endless fields are the furthest thing from the truth.

I look forward to Jamie Oliver doing a report on the production of beef, pork and so on, next. Wonder if he will?

    Cheers :-)
