  1. Why not just go with the alternative fuel of saltwater?

  2. No. They don't have the range, and getting air compressed that much is difficult. Biodiesel and ethanol are both far more practical. And don't go off on me about corn. That's the worst POSSIBLE way of making it!

  3. when they come out with a diesel hybrid air car i will be first in line. air tanks are a lot lower weight then batteries and that will give you a lot more range.

plus the air tanks will be cheaper to recycle and cleaner to recycle.

    batteries are toxic waste.

then i can run it with vegetable oil.

where are you going to plug it in  if you are traveling across country.

get a motel room every time you need to recharge.

that will cost more then gas.

    you better THINK this out.

that is the biggest problem that we have is no one is thinking long term.

they are just grabbing it first thing that they hear.

it already is causing major problems. just look at ethanol made from corn.

you have to think and not fall for the hype.

  4. Yes, I would! I really am a tree hugger, and I think man kind are ruining the earth. And plus, those gas prices are way to high. Seriously. We need air cars, not dirty oxygen that makes you cough up gross black stuff(which I do not know WHAT it is).

  5. Okay, let's take their ultra-lightweight chassis and make it legal for American use.  Front and rear 5mph bumpers, safety glass, at least 2 airbags, crumple zones, side impact beams and some sort of rollover protection.  There's about 400+ pounds added to it.  Now the proposed hybrid model, which is the one they suspect is capable of making a coast to coast run, will need the full measure of emission controls.  Since weight is the killer of high efficiency cars, the once 120 mile range 60 mph air car becomes the 70 mile range 40 mph air car.  All they are trying to do is sell you snake oil technology.  20 years ago they were producing gasoline powered cars that averaged better fuel economy than a Prius at a third if the price.  Taking those same vehicles and upgrading them to current technology could easily yield a 60 mpg.  Throw that kind of engine into a hybrid and now you can push the 80 mpg average.  Take that same engine and convert it to run on easy to produce methanol and you may drop down to 30 mpg, but it's a clean fuel source that is cheap and easy to produce.

  6. We have to get a power source to compress the air.

The process of compressing and decompressing has some inefficiency, but the overall system is adequately efficient if we can get low cost power to do the compression.

That cheap power might come from nuclear or wind power, or it might come from coal fired plants. To accomplish much we would have to have a truly green source of that power.

Electric cars and air cars use plug in power. They may be different efficiency but the same power source gives the same environmental problem.

First solve the problem of getting your  grid power green. No point adding more electrical demand without having green electricity genertation.

  7. Not a bad idea for commuting in the city if it only takes two bucks of electricity to charge up the air tanks.

Wouldn't want to get in an accident with one though.

If it is an economically sound solution and costs less to drive I am sure they will catch on, if not they wont.

  8. air cars are a promising technology, but they also have their issues. some are similar to those of electric cars, that being limited range, and some being similar to those cars powered by propane, that of high pressure tanks needed to contain the "fuel" for the car. hybrid air cars have emission requirements that must be met as well. would i buy one? probably since it would make a nice little grocery getter, but i wouldnt make it my daily driver at least not at first.
