Would you care if your mom said?

Question

Today I (in my 50’s) put on a beige blouse and peach pants. As I was about to have breakfast. My mom is in her 80’s.

Mom: “You know I don’t like the way that looks - the blouse looks like pajamas with those pants”

Me: “I know I don’t like the way it looks either”

So then I put on beige pants and had breakfast. And after breakfast

Me: “How does it look now”

Mom: “It is up to you what you wear”

Me: “But how does it look”

Mom: “I still say the top looks like pajamas”

Me: “I can’t see that it does - what are you seeing”

Mom: “That is why I did not say anything”

Then about a half hour later my mom came into my room to ask me to look something up on the computer for her

Me: “I still cannot see how it looks like a pajama top”

Mom: “You know when I wear something you tell me the truth”

Me: “True. But tell me does it look horrible now with the beige pants

Mom: “No”

So my question: Would you care if your mom said something like that and would you still wear the top.

Absolutely. YOU are wearing it. Not everyone will have the same opinion, especially with such a difference in age. My mom usually hates how I dress [I'm in my 20's]...I just shrug it off because I don't like what she wears either, we just have different styles! We make fun of each other a lot.

Don't take it personal. I'm sure she doesn't mean to bother you like this.

I would mind my mother's opinion very much. What she says about my clothes will make or break my day.

And would I still wear the top? If I like it very much, and I prefer my own color coordination, yes!!

These kinds of opinions are subjective.

One of my friends said: "No matter how old you get, your parents will always find something to nag about." - so maybe we don't always have to take EVERYTHING they say too personal.

if i liked the top i would wear it at your age you should be able to make that decision on your own who cares what other people think you only have to impress yourself not your mom dear
