If there was a safe drug to give your adolescent daughter to delay her puberty, would you do so? Girls are maturing so young. Why should a 13-14 yr old girl hv to deal with having their periods, etc.

  1. because 13 and 14  year old girls have been dealing with this since the beginning of time? it is not natural to stop the natural progression one of the questions that you have to ask is what kind of effect would it have long term on the child. and yes i do have two girls and i worry more about how they will turn out as young women not how long to delay development

  2. firstly, many girls are having their periods at ten and eleven, so 13-14 isn't that young. I had my first period at ten.

secondly, most young girls WANT their period, esp if their classmates have already had it. this is one issue where, if i knew that the drug was safe, i'd let her choose.

  3. I don't know about anyone else but to me, this sounds like an idea that would appeal mainly to pedophiles. They could get girls who are more emotionally mature but still look like little children.

  4. emmmm no i wouldn't, although it might save the guys some trouble, she's going to be a head wrecker!

  5. uhh... 13-14 is the natural age for a woman to start puberty, life is already so artificial, why ruin something else?

  6. h**l to the no! Why would you do such a thing? That's horrible. Girls/ women will mature when they naturally mature! Who are we to decide this for mother nature!? Wow.

ksnake10, that's horrible. Also, why do you only blame it on the girls? If we are going to do this to girls, we should also do this to guys because obviously who got the girls pregnant? You don't know a thing, do you? If you are going to blame this on women pregnancy, then obviously both should be robbed of their woman/man hoods for a while.

Also, think about this. Would you really have the heart to mutulate your daughter like that? I hope not.

ps. One more thing, ALL drugs have side affects!

  7. What a fascinating question.  I am a Children's Bill of Rights Advocate and it is a TERRIBLE violation of children's unalienable rights to have any unnecessary medical procedure such as circumcism conducted on a child without the child's rational permission.  Our justice systems go no lower than 12 years old for capacity to think rationally.  Therefore, whacking things off children's bodies, even piercing their ears and certainly altering a girl's puberty by delaying its onset is unethical because children under 12 do not have the capacity to make rational decisions, such as whacking something off their bodies or not.  Menstruation is good and natural.  Because it happens only to women does not make it a "bad" thing.  Menstruation is the same as men having to deal with beards.  Why would anyone in his right mind think boys are too weak to deal with beards or that girls are too weak to deal with their natural bodily functions?

  8. I would definitely postpone it. Poor, fatty diets are responsible for many girls entering puberty so soon. I don't think that's any excuse for sexual activity, but if we could delay girl's periods then we could prevent many of them from ruining their lives with pregnancies and STDs.

The teenage pregnancy pact in Gloucester, Massachusetts was totally ridiculous and the tax payers should not have to foot the bill for those girls' irresponsible behavior.

  9. no , id never interfer with mother nature... and there are no really safe drugs

  10. Actually, there IS such a drug. Giving a child a GnRH agonist will prevent puberty while they're taking it. And such treatment is given to girls who reach puberty early. It's also used in certain cases to delay puberty in order to increase height, I believe. See, the high estrogen of puberty causes girls' bone growth plates to fuse. Delay puberty by several years, and you've got several more years of growth till the plates fuse. Medical ethicists are debating about the significance of this. It's possible that a parent might want to delay puberty for a kid so that they'll be taller. It's an expensive treatment, but if they want it...

  11. SLS?

  12. Many girls start at 10 & 11 years old now.  Some are even younger than that!  That is really too young.

13-14 is not that early anymore...let them alone to deal with it.

  13. Ew, no. I wouldn't want to mess with her body.

  14. Why would any sane reasonable parent want to delay his or her child's normal sexual development? Would you give your son a drug to delay his first erection or his first "wet dream"? Sounds ridiculous to me.

  15. Why on earth would oyu want to mess uo their body chemistry? I had my period at 12, no big deal - it's nothing bad or scary. And with periods comes the maturing and blossoming into a beautiful woman and feeling strength and confidence.
