who will bargain desperately to spend decades in miserable confinement, and then die there anyway. If I were convicted, I would choose death, and waive any appeals. Why prolong the misery? This would be true if I was guilty or if I was innocent but had no chance of proving it.

Your thoughts?

  1. Ah, you see there's the rub - there's always a remote possibility that something could change and the prisoner could somehow manage to get released.  It doesn't matter how they live, just so long as they get to.   The desire to live is a pretty strong instinct.  There are people who are in far worse living situations than prison, and they fight like the dickens to live.

    I'd always choose living.

  2. i'm going to make sure i won't be involved in that situation to make these decision

  3. I have often thought the same thing. To me, life in prison would be a vastly worse sentence than death.

  4. 100% with you.

  5. the problem is fear.  You can say you will die, but when faced with the death penalty, you may change your mind.

    "Life" does not mean forever.

  6. OK, well, my brother-in-law is incarcerated.  He has been before, many times.  I have talked to him about it in between sentences, when he was out.  When he is in he has cable, internet, free phone calls(because people on the outside pay for them), he works part time sweeping floors and such for commissary pay, which he mostly spends on candy.  He has a T.V. with cable in his cell, visits 3 days a week, and through other people in the prison can get pretty much whatever he wants, legal or illegal.

He has basically no responsibility, and has the things he would have on the outside, besides basic freedom.  He told me straight out he doesn't mind being locked up, it's time to relax.

So I guess that just points out what exactly is wrong with out prison system.  We went from "cruel and unusual" to offering vacations.

  7. Life. I am totally against the death penalty. My problem with the death penalty is that it is a final solution with no possibility of a :do-over" in case of an error. There have been a number of death penalty cases overturned and the person freed because they were innocent and wrongly convicted. DNA testing has proved these people were wrongly convicted. How many people have died in the past who were wrongly convicted? As long as there is a possibility of error, death is the wrong solution. You can fix an error and free an innocent person, but I have yet to see anyone fix an error and undo death. Now if the person admitted guilt, and no possibility of an error existed, and they preferred to end their own life instead of serving a life sentence, I would provide the means for them to do so, but I would not pull the trigger nor would I allow anyone else to do so. I believe any person has the right to choose to end their life at a time if their choosing, NOT to have their life ended FOR them by anyone else, no matter how bad the crime. I find your comment that you would take death even if wrongly convicted to be irrational, at the least illogical. How could you simply ACCEPT a wrongful conviction and just DIE, innocent of any wrongdoing?

  8. Prisoners get drugs, cable and the internet. Whatever happened to hard physical labor? That needs to make a comeback.

  9. i would never murder someone so i don't have to worry! would you?

  10. Because nobody wants to die.  Everybody wanna go to heaven though...if he/she believes.  But for sure nobody wants to die.

  11. Of course, I hope that I will not be convicted like that.  But the world is such that anybody can be trapped at any time. You may not have chance to prove the innocence. Everything can happened. But I will never choose death by myself.  Take it in a positive way.  People can do better even in prison also.  Your attitudes will be visible everywhere.  Sometimes you may feel, you get consideration in prison than outside.  It is known that the person has to be there in jail for a long. Creatively we can plan for that period and beyond. Anyway nothing can be done outside.  But explore things can be done in Prison.  WHEREVER THERE IS WILL, THERE IS A WAY!!!

    Thanks

  12. Death.  I don't want people to think of me as a bad person & if I did something stupid like that I wouldn't want them paying their taxes on me.
