In terms of speed, do you think the fastest players in the nfl could compare with the likes of top class sprinters?

  1. ummmmm...................... YAH

  2. they are close but the runners definately are better

  3. HELLO YEAH!!!

  4. Absolutely not.  Our one football coach in charge of the D-Backs and receivers is also the track coach and he did both in school, but he had Olympic coaches talking to his father before he messed up his knee.  He either tore ligaments or flat out broke his knee-cap, I forget.  Anyway, he told me that people don't realize just how fast Olympic sprinters are.  There are some who run a 3.9 40 yard dash.  That's like 27 mph.  There has never been an NFL player to run under a 4 second 40.

  5. Some possibly with more training.

  6. Henry Carr was a gold medalist runner in the Olympics who went on to play safety in the NFL for the New York Giants.

  7. NO.

When I was in HS, the fastes runner in Football was Rocket Ismail. He came to Penn Relays to run a sprint race and was TOASTED

  8. I think that they(NFL players) could race with sprinters and not be totally embarassed, but their sports are different enough that they wouldn't be able to win consistently enough to be considered in the same league, based on sprinting alone. I would say that the NFL cornerbacks/recievers are more rounded atheletes however.

  9. no, people wanted deion sanders to compete in the olympics. he ran the 100m and u know what he got? like a 10.2. i bet if he trained to get off blocks and worked on sprinting form, he would probably get a 9.8 max maybe faster. sprinters are sprinters. nfl players are nfl players. but yeah if some nfl players just worked on getting off blocks and run with form, then they can compete in the olympics and give most sprinters a run for their medals.

  10. They are close, but their exercise regimen are not geared for just running as fast as possible and nothing else.  Cornerbacks and receivers also need some muscle mass to play their positions, whereas sprinters try to lean their bodies out to the extremes to get the fastest speed they can attain.

  11. Different type of "speed" to play pro football then to be a world-class sprinter, which is the major reason why those in the latter category have not transitioned well to the NFL. Discount the sprint times recorded in the NFL....these guys are timed with rolling starts and the clocks are oftentimes stopped early -- gimmicks to get fantastic times in the media.

  12. no most sprinters are in a league of there own

  13. Mabey Devin Hester and Ted Ginn Jr. But that's only because they can't catch they just run hail mary's (but they are good don't get me wrong) but I also wouldn't mind having Tyson g*y on my team...especially if he could catch... that would be an amazing receiver
