Would you consider Reinado might have been a patsy ?

I found the following post

"... Timor-Leste, the shooting of its President Jose Ramos-Horta and the set-up and murder of rebel leader, Major Alfredo Reinado, who was foolishly led to believe that the government, was willing to drop charges against him and negotiate his return to society.

After making fools of Australian occupation forces Reinado should have known that any deals of this nature would most likely be tricks to lure him into the open where he could easily be eliminated and used as a patsy for escalated foreign intervention/occupation".

As addressed in the past, the area is a hotbed of international intrigue.  It is certainly likely that "Major" Reinado was set up; the question is, by whom.
