Homosexual marriage is a "hot-button" issue. But should it be? Why do you feel that way? If you can choose not to drink, to eat pork, or to dress provocatively, why is it so different for you to simply choose not to have a homosexual relationship if you think it is wrong? Why make the choice for the millions of others who wish to have the same rights as everyone else?

  1. The good pastor is doing what she knows in her heart is right.  She knew, full well, what would happen to her within the church tradition in which she is ordained -- when she did it.  Not all church traditions agree with hers -- but hers is well known within the community of those educated in the various monotheistic theologies.

    In support of your question:

    1.  A person may choose not to have a relationship.  If they do so that does not in any way whatsoever make them less homosexual.  It simply means that they aren't having s*x (or at least s*x that is normal for them).   The false teaching (and it is truly and in every way a FALSE teaching) that a person who doesn't engage in homosexual s*x is not homosexual is a convenience for the extremists, but they cannot ever make it even marginally true.  I know men who are married, and have been for over 20 years.  They married for religious reasons.  They have been loyal to their wives.  They are STILL homosexual and they suffer every day to remain something completely unnatural to them AND THEY KNOW IT.  I in no way condemn their choice, though I disagree with it -- on the other hand I do think its unfair to their wives (who do not know, in a single case) and to be honest, I think its is a gross form of self-flagellation -- and can no more represent a "god of love" than could the murder of infants -- something which there is every evidence in the Old Testament MAY have been considered at one time -- with the infants being redeemed by the sacrifice of animals to G-d.

    2.  America as a nation does not establish religion -- yet, while there are multiple denominations and non-Christian faith groups (including my own) that fully support homosexual marriage -- American law continues to deny rights to those couples married by such recognized faith groups, if they are same gender couples -- which means that in fact, like it or not -- America IS establishing a particular subset of religions, at the expense of another subset -- by preferring one set of doctrines over another.

    Kind regards,

    Hermes
