Question:

Would you consider it terribly wrong for a 14 year old to have one alcoholic drink out of curiosity?

Like, not getting drunk or anything...just having one glass of something. I've been thinking about this forever, and it's killing me. I'm like, it's wrong, cause it's illegal, but there are worse things you could be doing other than having one glass of beer...

The same question goes for 15-19 year olds as well.

  1. No.. not if its just one drink for now.

I am proud to admit im a redneck.. and as such ive been sipping out of beer bottles and cans since i could walk. h**l i used to have sips of wine and mixed drinks and even liquor like rum and tequilla.

now im 21 and i dont drink, i dont smoke, i dont do any of those things that freaking stupid people think you will from being a little curious.

Just realize that your young and you'll have plenty of time for drinks later. you dont have to drink to have fun

  2. Yes, but only because my kids father (sperm donor now) is an alcholic, and his father is one, and his father was one (before he died).  It runs in the family.

My ex started drinking at 14.

  3. In 34 states, parents have the ability to give their children under age 21 alcohol for them to consume in the parent's household.

I'll agree it's illegal to buy alcohol under 21; though, technically, we may note that the police would not ticket you if you turned in the alcohol and told them where you bought it -- the store will end up with a big fine.

Now, what could be so bad about having a drink if 34 states think it's okay for minors to do in the presence of their parent(s)?  I will not agree that it is a great idea to get plastered as a teenager, which increases the chances of becoming alcoholic when done on a regular basis.  But a drink here and there, without getting drunk, is not a big deal.  Look at the rest of the world, their kids aren't any worse off.  The US has the highest purchase age in the world (if we remove countries that prohibit alcohol outright), which I find utterly baffling.

I personally think that if the parents in society listened to their child's curiosity about alcohol, and taught them how to drink responsibly we wouldn't have as many problems with underage drinking as we do.  We also might have less problems with college drinking.  Yes, college kids will drink, but if they are taught how to control themselves there would probably be fewer arrests, DUIs, and unexpected sexual encounters.  You will *never* be able to say that people wouldn't get drunk; it's human nature to be curious, and to see just what alcohol does.  I've been drunk a lot of times, and it's basically lost the appeal after a couple of rough nights.  I still drink, actually, I just had some Scotch and a beer this evening.

  4. I'm 16 and I drink some wine once or twice a week at night...It's about a glass and it's really nothing.

I think some laws are meant to be there for protection. Like if you're caught doing a crime while drunk, then you should have known better than to drink so much while it is illegal for you. Otherwise, if it is small and at home, then why not?

  5. i say go for it. one drink is not a crime. actually drinking is a great social activity as long as you are smart about it.

  6. My mom gave me the best parenting advice ever.... No matter  how we feel about a law  we do not have the right to pick and chose which ones we will obey. In my house with my kids  ( 3 teens and a 23 year old) a law is a law- No J-walking- no petty theft and no under age drinking

  7. no wayyy, it's not a big deal at all

  8. yes! first its just a sip then its a 6 pack then its to the bar! then its getting knocked up! then its killing the baby because you cant handle being a teenage mom! then next thing you know, you end up in jail!!! and thats why drinking is not good for under aged people.

  9. It would be awful. 13 to19 should not have alcohol at all. you already know it;s wrong so don't do it.  If you taste it may turn into an addiction. that would be the worst thing. alcohol is  very bad on your insides. It causes problems with you mentally also. don't do it. please.

    please please.

  10. Yes.

  11.   Alcohol impairs judgment and the judgment of a 14 year old is severely impaired as it is.

  12. no. as long as you dont drink too much or do it like everyday.

if your still in middle school its kinda weird but if your in high school, almost everyone does it.

  13. It's normal.  I doubt all the people that said no waited till their twenty first for their first taste of alcohol.
