  1. Why shouldn't you work for the dole?   If you want the benefits of living in your country (no matter where it is) you should give something back not just take and take.   Answer to the question is YES I would.

  2. There are alot of other options before 'work for the dole'. Part-time employment, study, etc..

Work for the dole does seem a pointless exercise. The government gets slave labour but thats it. No one would WANT to work for such low money as that, when you could do that work for an employer and get alot higher wages.

Work for the dole does little to help people get into employment. Its a simple case of slave labour for jobs no one wants to do, it doesnt give experience beneficial to the career path most people want to follow.

If your desperate and really can't find work ANYWHERE, then you don't have much choice. But for most, you can get work so long as your not fussy. Cleaning, Night fill, Call centre, etc..

  3. I would. Why? I am eager to try something I haven't done before. Just give it a try.

  4. While the concept of work for the dole is good in theory (ie people would have to give something back to the community for their centrelink payment) in practice, I don't think it really works that way.

The ultimate end solution is to have those NOT working into paid employment as soon as possible. As a person who has done work for the dole a few years ago, I believe it detracts from this aim and reduces time for those already working casually to increase their hours or relevant skills to find work. People not in work should be doing an accredited training course in their chosen field, volunteer work that will actually HELP them and different work experience programs.

I just think there are better ways of helping unemployed people find work, a "work for the dole" scheme in most cases just perpetuates the unemployment cycle for longer.
