  1. Yes, I have done it after working a full shift at work, but it was kind of an emergency...I would highly recommend flying with todays gas prices.

  2. I have done it many times. I drove to San Diego from Memphis and back in 5 days.

The way I stay alert on long drives is to sight see a lot, take breaks to use the restroom, etc.

I don't allow myself to get full on food because that makes me sleepy.

Good luck and take a digital camera with you.

  3. no way thats too long for me the longest i can drive is 2 hours no more then that

  4. no i have to stop for gas therefore breaking up the hours.

i drove from Sylva NC to Council Bluffs Iowa with only stops for gas. 19 hrs worth.

  5. No anyways gl

  6. If i did not have the money for a plane then no . But if I did-then I would definately take the plane. You see , I cannot drive 17 hours straight (not even 4 hours straight). I would fall asleep on the wheel if I drove 17 hours straight.

It is making me sleepy just thinking about it. Plus, imagine the gas prices UGH! It would be more than one plane ticket I think. Especially if you are drivng a SUV.

Anyways if I did that then I would be too tired for salat, so yeah.

Oh also, I have a chance of getting a seizure if I do not get enough sleep. I have gotten seizures before, so I would not want to take a chance.

    Salaam to everyone=)

    EDIT: DONT DO IT!!!

  7. Drove 37 hours hours straight one time. Sucked, but it had to be done. If you can handle it with out falling asleep sure why not!!! I had someone with me though so be careful.

  8. I would, however, I would take many many rest stops, as so I don't get cramps, and if I do happen to get a little sleepy.   My husband and I took a ten hour trip and he drove that just fine.   We stopped at almost every other stop rest though.

  9. for a dieing person

  10. i would love that

    driving is relaxing

    be careful =)

  11. yep - I drove from Houston Texas to Des Moines Iowa, straight through - almost 17 hours. If you get a good night's sleep, start early in the morning, and eat and drink regularly, you should be fine. It helps to have XM, or other things to listen to.

  12. I drove 18 hours made 1 stop to eat breakfast and get gas.  I would not advise it.  It wasn't a smart thing to do.

  13. I would take a brake in between for a nap, cup of coffee etc

  14. Depending on what for h**l yea! And i would prolly Just do it anyway u get to see so many things and go through a lot of places. GO FOR IT

  15. It depends on if I had peopple with me or not! : )

    lol

why are you driving for 17 hours? : )

  16. Even though, I have the 'drive' and I am confident, that I can drive safely, I won't. I think it will be risky.

  17. I would try i have drove for 11 hours it is ok in the day but at night your eyes get hevay

  18. I have, and it totally sucks! I used to drive long distances for a job I had, and my record is 21 hours, believe it or not. I drove from Arizona to New Orleans in that time. I did 12 regularly, and I liked it at first, but then I didn't! Make sure you keep stuff in the car with you for fatigue. Gum, hard candy, a thermos with coffee and a cooler with decaffeinated cold drinks will be most helpful. If you start to feel tired, it's important that you do not ignore it. Just pull over and get out for a minute. That will help. Not everyone can drive that long and you need to listen to your body! If you can't do it, be safe and get a room overnight!

  19. you'll start hating it after about 10 hours or so.

  20. its pretty long way, just be careful.

    inshallah you will get there.

please dont go, you cannot leave me,

    DONT GOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooo.

    i will miss you.

  21. I've drove for a straight 20 hours. Done it a lot. Just trust me... take a 10 minute nap if you have to. It's easier to fall asleep at the wheel than you think. You feel like you just blink and next thing you know, you have a steering column through your ribcage.

  22. hey i missed you too!

but no, i wouldn't. you risk falling asleep at the wheel, and is death really worth it when you can take an extra day and sleep in a hotel along the way? or, if you don't want to do that, you can bring a friend or family member and swap driving hours. but that's very dangerous and we all love you too much (:

  23. Nope, sounds too dangerous.

  24. I drove back east last Jan. 29 hours. Stop to get gas and coffee. You have to be aware when daylight comes.

  25. NOOOOO! Imagine the gas price!

  26. It depends upon when you start. Heading out at 5:00 p.m. after working all day - no. You'll never make it.

But if you get a good night's rest and start out reasonably early, you shouldn't have a problem.

I make 14-15 hour trips all the time. Your butt will be sore, but you'll make it.

  27. Yes, I have done more than that driving to DC. Time flies when you listen to music.

  28. I would no physically be able to. After about 6 hours i start to get hypnotized by the road and start to fall asleep.

  29. Did that when I was about 17 years old....it was really tiring coupled with the fact that the road was cramped with bumper to bumper crawl. Only stopped once for refuelling.

Suggest that u keep a bag of peanut or some refreshing drink ready at your disposal just to keep that sleepiness away...it could be dangerous....perhaps once a while you should open your vehicle window to let some fresh air in for better oxygen supply to the brain. I have also seen (and keeps one unit) of a device to be fitted near the ear that beeps out a loud sound whenever a driver's head tilt in a doze off. That could also be handy to keep you awake.

Just to share part of my previous experience.

  30. OMG DONT! My uncle got sleepy while driving and he started to go in zigzags, but at least my aunt woke up and told him to wake up, otherwise id be dead right now, and if i were dead, i wouldn't be able to warn u not to and then you'll die if u do drive 17 hours :0

  31. I can't drive yet. I'm still stuck taking the bus like a homeless person.

    P.S. Who are you?
