  1. Harley doesn't make a sport bike.  Buell's are just Harley engines in a twitchy, heavy package.

Buell tried to race in the Daytona 200 a couple years back, and it was pathetic.  They had to brake MUCH earlier than other bikes due to their weight, had to refuel twice as often because of their inefficient engines, and in the end none of them even finished the race.

But in a world of candy canes and marshmallow fantasies where Harley DID make a sportbike, why would I want to wait for six months or more to get a heavy, outdated, overpriced, underperforming motorcycle?

Oh, that's right, just for the NAME!  The only reason people buy Harleys NOW!

  2. I have a harley sport bike (BUELL) LOVE IT!!!

As well as 2 other harley's & most people who know harley's or motorcycle's in general, will hear the growl of your v twin & know that ain't no j*p bike!!!

  3. Doesn't Harley make a sport bike?  I'm trying to remember - but I was at my fav shop this past weekend - and for over a year now I've been seeing this totally hot thing they've come out with that I keep drooling over.

I'm pretty sure it's called a V-Rod...  check it out!  And I don't make fun of anyone - as long as they don't pull out in front of me! : )

  4. Harley made a sport bike and like their other bikes they make

    IT SUCKEDNUTS

    Vrod a sport bike ?????????

    HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA

  5. Yes, I'd consider a bike of any make if I liked it.

Harley have just started making a bike sold only in Europe at the moment....so I could buy it if I wanted it......trouble is though it gets closer to what I want than regular Harleys are and certainly looks nice enough it still isn't quite there once it's on the road.

It's a start though, it'll be interesting to see if Harley see a chance to diverge a little to sell more bikes in what is after all a very large market that they only have a committed fan base in at present.

  6. I would strongly consider a Harley sportbike if they made one that was as good or better than the j*p sportbikes at a comparable price.  Some will bring up Buell, but they are not in the same class as my CBR1000rr and that's not even this years model which is better than my bike in every way with the new redesign.  I have a riding buddy with a Buell and he has trouble keeping the pace.  Now if Harley purchased Augusta and will make a great sportbike, I would have to check it out but if they expect me to $16,000 for a bike that can not compete with a $12,000 I will not.  I would also have to worry about the reliability of the bike since Harley will be new to the Inline4 or v4/5 motor, and who even knows if they will ever get away from v-twins.  They will have to go away from the v-twin if they want to make a competitive engine.  The current Harley riders will never accept change.

  7. If it were as good as a Japanese bike and priced in the same realm as Japanese bikes why not include it in the world of possibilities.

The Buell is pretty much a Harley sport bike.  But the performance isn't there and the price isn't there.  Maybe someday.

How could someone riding a two wheeled tractor make fun of someone riding a rocket?

  8. There is certainly no lack of ignorance in some of these answers.  Statements like "Buell's are just Harley engines in a twitchy, heavy package" make me shake my head.

Take a look at the Buell 1125R for example.  375 lbs. dry weight.  Heavy???  I don't think so.  The engine is made by Rotax, the people that make engines for Aprilias.  The engine puts out 82 lb·ft of torque.  The nice thing is that the power starts at very low rpm and is very linear, so you don't have the spikey power curve of a typical inline 4.  The bike has some revolutionary things like storing the fuel inside the frame, which is something Buell has been doing for awhile now.

Oh, and "They will have to go away from the v-twin if they want to make a competitive engine."  Really???  So the v-twins in the Honda RC-51, Aprilia’s RSV 1000 R, Honda VTR 1000 superhawk, and many Ducatis suck?  That's news to me and the many people who ride them!

So, to answer your question: yes, I'd buy a Harley sport bike.  I'd love to get a Buell 1125R!  Will Harley riders make fun of you for riding a "crotch rocket?"  Most probably won't.  In fact the Harley riders I know don't make fun of me for riding a Suzuki!  Real riders repect and approve of pretty much anything on 2 wheels.  Well, maybe not scooters...

  9. No. I have no use for a sport bike of any make.

  10. Sofa King???  don't get these Harley Guys all rilled up!

you know and I know sport bikes are the way to go!

these HD guys ONLY owned and ONLY rode a HD that they own!

these HD Guys was never on any other bike than a HD, so they have NO IDEA what a good, smooth, comfortable bike really is!

They think HD is the best because they have never owned any other bike than a HD.

I have a friend that owns a HD Fat Boy, and for years I have been trying to talk him into either a Yamaha Star, or Honda cruiser bike, then when I get him to the Yamaha Dealer, almost have him convinced into trading in his HD for a REAL BIKE, his HD buddies yell and scream at him telling him Yamaha's are junk and for him to trade it for a new HD!

its peer pressure, its pride, even if there are some HD Owners out there that hate their HD, they would be AFRAID to admit it!
