  1. i just had to claim job seekers allowance (much prefer that name)

i have just graduated as a diagnostic radiographer and have more qualifications than the staff in the job centre i suspect BUT i am desparately searching for a job (i have applied to one-i am waiting to hear from them) i have no money and i dont want to rely on parents or my overdraft so i had to. i was a full time nursery nurse years ago so i paid my taxes then and i will do for the next 40yrs.

i havent received any money yet and i hope i get a job before i do-i dont want it i NEED it

abfab55-that is a very immature, narrow minded opinion-its not black and white-lets hope you never need help in the future

  2. Ave been on the dole its not nice. sitting at home all day bored out you mind with nowt to do would rather be working.

left school 9 years ago been on the dole once in that time for 5 months was ****.

But having said that getting paid £190 a month for sitting on your **** get free rent council tax prescriptions and anything else i missed don't Really give you a incentive to go back to work dose it

  3. I would never consider going on the dole, but I have done in the past and will do again if I ever find myself in the same position again. If you're unemployed it's not a case of extra cash, it's a case of trying to meet your obligations until you can find work. Unfortunately regardless of what you read in the papers, the majority of people do not choose to go on the dole, it's not something that I wanted for myself, but circumstances out of my control. It's the same with alot of people. For example what about those who suddenly become ill, or those who's children may become ill. What I will say is that it should never be considered as a long term thing, as the longer you're on it the harder it is to come off it.

Edit-abfab55. People are entitled to their opinion, but can you please explain to me how, it can be stealing when you have to apply for it. It is my understanding that stealing is the unlawful taking of goods, money and possessions that are not yours. Secondly how can it be stealing when you've paid your taxes, and you NI for years, then have to sign on for a period of time. And if anyone is stealing it's the bl00dy rich stealing from the poor. Fat cat bosses spring to mind.eg bbc directors, utility companies, ect, so get off your narrow minded high horse, get down on your knees and be thankful that all is ok in your world, and don't judge others so harshly.

  4. Never.

Its a lazy persons way of getting money from tax payers who actually bother to go to work every day!

Its selfish of most people to think they can just live off of other peoples money that they have earned and worked hard for!

I think this way of getting money should be banned totally. Its very unfair on people who work!

And i still disagree with it if you are looking for a job and need cash...all you need to do is say your looking for a job and then they give you the money... Its stealing.

"steal for the rich and give to the poor"

    Its totally wrong.

If you need spare cash then why not do jobs for family or neighbours?

    -do babysitting

-go into little corner shops and ask around for jobs that may need doing.

NOBODY needs to be given benifits from the government. Its theiving!

  5. Nope

  6. yup i think its fair enough. esp if ur looking for work. I dont agree with people just doin it coz theyre lazy and dont wanna work. But sometimes u gotta go on it inbetween jobs coz otha wise ur gunna run outta money.

Im about to be unemployed so the dole may soon become my friend ahahah

  7. yep im on the dole, im at home with the kids alday, as my hubby is a builder there isnt much work here at the mo so we need the money really,

but as soon as my youngest child starts school ill be getting a part time job,

  8. if I had to, because I could not find ANY work, then I would, but in my area there is plenty of work, I can't see it happening.  Since I left school I have been working, so if I ever need it I will not be ashamed to ask for help, I'm not sure I could handle being that broke though.

  9. Unfortunatly my husband and I have HAD to quit our job at the same place, becuase they started to mess us around with the hours they were giving us.  My hubby has been there for 3 years !  It got the the point we were getting 18 hours a week, but every other week would be less hours so we couldn't pay our rent and couldn't get any housing aid because of the times we WERE getting 18 hours !  B!oody pathetic !  He started that job doing over 45 hours a week !  We have 2 young children, we have to go on the dole but it is not permanent !!!!!!!  God no !  I have no problem with people being on the dole if they genuinly cannot work or are looking for work, but the ones who don't want to work and the 'goverment looks after me' attitude, makes me sick !!!

If you haven't got a job, go on the dole, by the time it's all sorted out, you should hoepfully already have a job and you'll get some money in your back pocket from the social to pay 'last weeks' bills !  Good luck, don't be ashamed, you're one of the good ones wanting to work !

I've just got a phone call actually for a job I've applied for, so fingers crossed !!!  Just sent him my CV.  x*x

  10. i don't think we should feel ashamed of taking advantage of this benefit that we rightly deserve. Besides, while you're looking for jobs, they'll pay for your NI, if not you'll have to pay that back in the future, out of your own pocket....

so, yes... it's not for people sitting on their bum all day only. I pay tax, alot of tax, sooo it's only fair that I get my rightful share when I'm in trouble.

  11. As long as I am fit to work, I will... I left school at sixteen and have had a total of six weeks unemployed. I'm now forty five and cannot understand the folk who say there are no jobs out there!! Too many people are relying on our silly benefits system and getting used to the comfort of not having to pay rent, council tax etc.... The government are making it almost impossible for folk who have been on benefits, to go out and get a job, they are sometimes better off whilst claiming. Something is really wrong. Good grieff, if you are able to enjoy a fairly good life on the dole, why try to get a job?. The whole system needs to be looked at to encourage folk to have a wee bit more pride in themselves and strive to get a job, not sit on their behinds and gladly rake in the cash that all us taxpayers are dishing out!!!

  12. I did consider it, but i didnt do it. I figured i was better off staying in my crappy job and gaining the magical word "EXPERIENCE", even though im on less money than i would be on the dole! Its not fair at all is it?

  13. In between two jobs I received Jobseekers Allowance, which wasn't much, and I applied for job after job after job ... I hated it.  It was totally demoralising.  I have worked for 40 years almost non-stop, and I hate not working.  Being out of work made me realise how horrible it is, in all sorts of ways.  And I do agree with people who say 'If you really want to work, you will find work'.  I wouldn't have cared what I did.  But waking in the morning and thinking 'I have no work today' is a terrible feeling.  But I was brought up with a very Protestant work ethic and unemployment was considered shameful.

  14. Its not worth it, the social just make you feel like dirt - even the hard working ppl out there, the social are a coward of basr*rds!  I did go on it once left college - even when trying my hardest, which they seen was made to feel like a bit of ****!so NO never again

  15. For most people, "going on the dole", is not something one does from choice, but something that happens from necessity.

It is not for most of us, a "life-style" option, but a "bridge over troubled waters".  Only when adversity strikes, does one "go on the dole"!

It is not a pleasurable experience, but something that is suffered until such time as a new job, and an upturn in fortunes, occurs!  Believe me- I know!

  16. Some of these people are idiots do they honestly beleive for example if they break their arm and are out of work for 8 weeks they wouldnt claim the dole.Do they honestly think that imagine kids hungry but no mammy wont claim the dole due to pride just to (keep up with the jones).Seriously guys pull your heads from out of your own ars es and get a reality check.

  17. I've already been on it. My family are quite well off and can support me, but I've been unemployed for ages and they were a bit sick of me lazing around the house and just asking them for money all the time. Plus, there's no harm in having some extra cash, especially when it's from the taxpayer's pocket - hardworking people like my parents. I do find it a pain in the @rse to have to keep going down there, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

  18. Yes. The problem is, it has a bad name because of all the dodgy people out there who are on the dole and have no intention of going to work. But those who genuinely need it shouldn't be made to feel bad for claiming it.

  19. I would absolutely consider going on the dole. That's what i pay all this darn tax for. if I need some back I'm so getting it. That's the whole point. I see no shame in it, nor problem. To be honest, I find it a little strange that people attach such stigma to it. My Father and brothers all work in the construction trade and have all recently been made redundant. Subsequently they're all going to claim benefits and quite rightly too - they've earned the right for sure. For people who are unfit to work or whatever, that's cool too - again that's what it's for and I'm happy if some of my tax money can go to helping others. Hope this helps.

  20. Dole money is a mere existence, of which you will be tempted to spend in order to live ????

I was forced on the dole as I had an accident at home severing part of my hand, now you would think that I could claim all the benefits WRONG !!!!! My earnings dropped as I had to give up work, due to this problem. The hospital that treated me wrongly conveniently lost my records, and I was unable to claim medical negligence. I had to go on the dole as I had no job due to the accident. They refused for eight years to accept I was unable to work. I was subject to work experience tests, although prospective employers then could see I was disabled, and I had about as much chance of getting work as finding teeth in a hen ! I sat through medical tests which were biased, and had to prove I was still seeking employment by attending several interviews and writing numerous letters, all expenses were paid out of the £55 dole money. My personal life savings went down like a stone, from £4,000 to being £7,000 in debt ! I was fighting back bailiffs and others and struggling to pay ordinary bills.

MY ANSWER IS DON'T DO IT !!!!!!!!

  21. I feel it is more appropriate to go on the dole rather than depend on spouse or parents, children.

I see the dole as preferable to leaving those dependents without the necessities of life. And If I personally could not provide for my own necessities I would use the dole before I would steal, and I would steal before I would starve.

One should prefer to provide for oneself and family, but that is not uniformly possible. When the economy takes a major downturn there can be millions unable to provide completely, even if many can do a partial job of providing.

I have been able to provide  for 38 years, but just before that time I put myself through high school and University on the 'dole'.  (a combination of municipal, provincial and federal funding). Every year now I pay more in taxes than I got in dole for that whole period. I hope society feels it was a good investment.

What I hope however is that people using the dole will improve their ability to earn, not just survive.

  22. I have just gone on the dole after losing my job and oh, what misery!!

I almost wish I had not bothered. The amount of hoops they expect you to jump through just to get a paltry £60 a week, that does not cover my outgoings.

The derisory looks and personal questions recieved from nosey bloody desk jockeys makes me want to tell them to stick it up a place the sun don't shine.

The Housing and Counil Tax benefit is the same.

I do not want to be on the dole, I want a job, and I even ask the automons who serve me what qualifications I need to do their job, and if any positions are vacant, as I am that desperate to try and instill a little satisfaction and pride back into my life after only one month of not working, that I would seriously consider swooping to DWP levels and give everyone else the **** I get.

30 applications sent, 10 negative responses, 3 interviews and a phone call to make tomorrow. I will have a job this month!!!

  23. if i couldnt find a job, I would get job seekers allowance

but i would never go on the dole etc through choice

because its just a terrible thing to do

you should pay your own way in life, and for parents

its an awful example to your children!

  24. Years ago when i had just got married and moved to new area thought i would have some time off  to get house straight  and sign on for awhile on second week of signing on they called me in and offered me a job working for them at the job centre could not really say no so i didn't get my few weeks off

  25. I done it years ago when i got paid off and would not recommend it! I feel they treated me horrible and i wasn't willing to put up with it for a measly £40 a week!  Paid my taxes and thats what you get. Also the fact you to go to the office when they tell you, basically they control you the whole time!

Once again i'm jobless bit live with my partner so would not be entitled to anything anyway but i would not ask again and be made to feel that way.

Ofcourse if your really needing money you should go for it! I may have just had a bad experience lol

And too all the people that think as they have paid there taxes they are entitled to it, think again! Unless you are single or both you and partner are unemployed you are not entitled to anything. Most of our money goes to the all the lowlifes out there that don't want to work not to secure us if something goes wrong.

  26. Iv always said i wouldn't as it would make me feel like poo poo but i'm really strugling to find a job atm. I think it's because of the state of the economy at the moment no one is looking to employ. That's what i have been told anyway. I'm considering it at the moment because i could do with the help finding a job and the money is just a brucie bonus really.

  27. I wouldnt because i like to have the best Gadgets and nice car and Holidays . You cant have these things if you on the Dole ! . Everyone can work but alot of people are Lazy ! i There must be about 25 people in my street that dont work but could , Kinda sad , but hey if they want c**p life than thats up to them . The people with the best lifes work:)

  28. Of course I would.  While I am employed my employer (and me) pay taxes that go towards the dole of which I never see a cent.  If you are like most people even if you do go on the dole for a while you will receive far less than you ever put into it.

That is like asking me if I have insurance would I still go the hospital and file a claim.  I can't imagine why I would not.

  29. This is one of those questions that  means different things depending on demographics. Some of the people here obviously still live at home or are not the sole breadwinner and don't have to pay rent. mortgage bills at all or on their own so they saying no should be seen in this light.

Also if you are European as apposed to American the idea of Social Security does not have the stigma it may have in the US which does not have a tradition of Social Welfare.

I have been on the dole because in England thats what the social welfare system is there for. You dont have a job you still have to eat they pay you money until you find a job. Simple.

Of course some people abuse it but some people abuse free speech by swearing while drunk in the street at 2am in the morning, but you dont ban speaking.

  30. I am currently a Full-Time Freelance Jobseeker & on Jobseeker's Allowance (a.k.a. Pauper's Pittance to ME) ! ! I was doing the #1 HATED JOB in the UK if NOT the WORLD ! I was given my P45 because I was NOT bringing in ENOUGH REVENUE (£'s !) to the Company which had TAKEN OVER the CONTRACT from MY FORMER EMPLOYER which was contracted to do the ENFORCEMENT for another PUBLIC BODY ! I was FORCED OUT of MY JOB because of the way the CONTRACT between MY EMPLOYER & the PUBLIC BODY was DRAWN UP !

  31. In America it is welfare and a big fat yes!!!  If you need the help don't be ashamed to ask for it.  If you don't need it then don't get it.

Society make it out to be bad but it isn't.  Especially as hard as times are now.

Heck wish I could get on the dole.  In the us it is limited.  I heard your is unlimited.
