Would you ever consider visiting Tunisia?

If I was you I'd seriously consider visiting the country. Many English tourists have not enjoyed their time out in Tunisia but I know why. It's because these certain Tunisian's need to make money for themselves, so they hassle the English who lets be honest, are easier to break than Tunisian's themselves.

I'm half Tunisian, and visited the country many times. I have read unfair things on these answer sites saying that Tunisian men will fight English men if the English wife is showing off her skin, this is totally not true at all. I've seen many Tunisian girls, around 20 years old some older who are wearing just bikini's.

Men do NOT look at women funny if they are showing a lot of flesh, I don't know where people get this c**p from. Yes it is a muslim country but just because it's that doesn't mean the people living there are as strict as other muslim countries. Tunisia is an extremly liberal country, the people are very very kind and normal, not weird like you might make out and the food is heavenly.

However I may say this as I've got Tunisian family, I understand the people and they seem more normal to me than the ordinary Englishman.

Don't tell me how the peope behave, I know them very well and they are alright!

  1. yes, i love tunisia. of course i'm married to one!! oh i'm an Muslim American, maybe thats why? lol

  2. Yes as im going in 2weeks lol!

ive also heard people say these things! but i think people book a holiday there, and then do any research on the place.

I know before im going that im going to get hasseled to buying things in the main town, and i KNOW to simply say no, firmly but nicely and walk away! I also know it is a muslim country and you have to respect that, so i have brought suitable clothes for when visiting the real tunisian towns!

If people dont do research and walk down the street in a lil skirt and vest top, you are going to get stared at!!!! and if your not expecting the poorness of the country and the fact that tunisians NEED tourists to make money and that your goin to get hasseld. i suppose it would be an annoyance!

But thats there fault for not researching the country they are visiting!!

I am going for the first time in 2weeks, and i cannot wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i know MANY people who LOVE tunisia, so i think everyone should deffo consider going!!!!!!!!

  3. i went over 10 years ago. with my family and yes we had a wonderful time.

    But

The people and there customs are so different   I mistakenly went into town on my own! and was accosted (I have done that in other foreign countries and been fine i even did it in Singapore with no problems)

They have an attitude problem to single women.   and for that reason i wont go again.

    sorry

people say the same things about different people in different countries, they also say it about Brits  so i dont know what your on about really.

  4. Yep I've been.  I went with my family when I was about 8..quite liked it!  We had a feast in the desert and everything!  Although there wasn't that much to see there, it is certainly a good place for a beach/resort holiday and there are a few things and places worth visiting.

Not sure whether I'd go back - Morocco is next on my list....so many places to see, so little time!

  5. I would!!

I loved the beaches, activites. I'd go there again. I enjoyed camel riding too. the people were nice although a bit eager but nice in general! I miss the sun a lot but they do have MASSIVE watermelons! Its great!

  6. I've visited it twice, both times were great, I would love to go there again whenever I get the chance.

It's true that walking around town as a single women can be annoying, I'm syrian so I understand most of  thier Arabic, but everyone was confusing me with a european because I'm tall, white & a bit blond, so they assumed I don't understand what they were saying, talking to me in English, French, Spanish, Italian, German... I was really amazed with the languages all the shop keepers in the tourist areas speak!

Anyway, it was very uncomfortable walking around alone, it's not ideal in Syria either yet not half as bad. I had to keep on my MP3 headphones on and pretend I don't hear them.

Of course not everyone was like that!

I met amazing people that were so nice and kind it was almost embarrassing!

I was even "kidnapped" by a cab driver that saw a bandage on my hand that I had to put because of an allergic reaction to some insect's bite, he insisted that I go to a pharmacy right away but I told him I don't have time, the next thing I knew he was puling over in front of a pharmacy!

He waited some 15 minutes for me till I took my allergy shot there, took me to a pastries shop to have breakfast before I take the shoot and then refused to charge any extra money for his time!

    It was amazing!

p.s. As far as questions go, I think you had already made up your mind on yours, maybe leaving it a bit more open next time might get you some more answers?

Anyway, you're lucky you have family there to visit whenever you want!

  7. I first visited Tunisia in 2000, then moved here (and have been living here since) 2001.

Tunisia is an amazing place filled with wonderful people. I think a lot of the misconceptions of Tunisia come from people who have not been here and/or afraid of it because it is classified as a Muslim country. A lot of people let fear rule their thoughts, and spread rumors that they have heard or read. There are also those people who take way too seriously local jokes.

If people would think about it or a second, they would realize that if Tunisia was really such a bad place, it would not be listed among one of the most popular tourist destinations for Europeans, and it's popularity amongst Westerners (Americans, Canadians, etc) and people from the ME and Asia would not keep growing year after year.

  8. i wouldnt. but if you want to see your family. go ahead and do so.

  9. I just might but I'm tired and its past my bedtime.

  10. I've been 3 times. I like it there, but it is a bit annoying to get hassled to buy things wherever you go.Apart from that I like it.
