Would you ever help someone who asks for it online?

Question

I like to search for these websites of people who need help and send them money. Even if I can only send a few dollars. My friend thinks it's terrible to ask for money but I think it's fine. They are only asking, not demanding. I just wondered what everyone else thought about it. Here are some examples:

honestly i wouldn't online but i do give clothes to vinnies & put $2 in the peoples hat or titns that live on the street

I don't know if I would ever send money because you don't really know who is legitimate on here or not however, I hope that I help people everyday on answers by answering questions with an open mind  trying not to judge people and by sharing my life  experiences. I think that what you are doing is very sweet but if I was going to send money I would send it to a reputable charity or missionary!

I think what you do with your money is your business. However, you have to realize that these are scams. If you want to be charitable, donate your money to an organization that can give you the documentation to prove that its legitimate. If you want to donate to a smaller group, find a family or child through an agency in your town that you can sponsor. If your real motive is to help someone and not get patted on the back for it(like your email implies), then don't just send some web site your money. These are the result of those "work from home" scams.
