Would you ever wear a used wedding gown or ring?

I'm not getting married but I'm just curious. If you loved the gown and it was your dream dress and had been cleaned like new would you wear it? Not to mention the price was a steal.

What about a ring? I mean, you are going to have it forever (or you hope) what if it was a pawn shop ring or one on ebay and it was exactly what you wanted in your ring size? Again, like the dress it's a lot cheaper than any of the other rings you've looked at but much prettier in your opinion than the others too?

I think I would wear the dress of my dreams whether it was used or not and the same with the ring. If I love it and can afford it not to mention it's cheaper then the others why not? I don't believe in bad luck.

  1. Oh, I completely agree with you if it was the dress/ring of my dreams heck yeah I would wear it if it was used!  Plus I'm a penny pincher so I would love to get discounted items hehehehe

  2. A lot of women get heirloom, used by someone in the family, wedding rings.  Antique stores and pawn shops are full of beautiful rings.  Buying an expensive wedding dress when you will wear it once it sort of dumb.  If you can find a great dress to rent or buy used at a lower price why not save money for something like a house.

  3. Used ring - No, unless it was a true vintage/antique or heirloom

    Used dress - No, unless it was an heirloom

    I would never want a used ring. I know it's the "thought" that counts, but if someone were to show up with a pawn shop special I'd be furious. As far as the dresses are concerned, I am very picky about what I wear and very picky about wedding dresses. I am set on what I want and I can get it for cheap. I'm engaged and my b/f knew how I was with rings. So, he bought me exactly what I wanted from a well known chain jeweler.

  4. No. I prefer my own gown and ring.

  5. Buying used is the ultimate in green shopping. It doesn't have to be a pawn shop, it can be an antique shop or consignment store.

    Both my engagement ring and my wedding band are "pre-owned". We went shopping for art at a consignment store, and wound up ring shopping by accident. We got my wedding band, a Tacori-style eternity band in yellow gold with yellow diamonds all around and white diamonds on the sides, for $800. It looks a lot like this one;

    For my engagement ring I bought an antique Victorian ring setting on eBay that was being sold for scrap, and some inexpensive diamonds(flawed but pretty, and conflict-free) for less than $100, and paid another $200 to have the ring resized, repaired and reset. Result; a gorgeous "heirloom" ring that compliments my wedding band and has a hidden mystery, a story.

    I did most of my wedding gown shopping on used wedding dress sites. I figure that the bride is passing on her happiness to the less fortunate of us. I found this one;

    I don't know about anyone else, but I don't care about "used" versus "new". My friend rented an $18,000 gown for $1000. How many weddings has that gown seen? How many thrilled brides?

  6. Yes, I wear a used wedding gown every Saturday night. It gets a lot of attention at the bars and clubs I go to. However, when I approach women, they think I'm a little too weird.

    I am not much into wearing rings, though. I think it is a little too effeminate. It might make women think I'm g*y.

    I hope this helps answer your question.

  7. I would. I don't believe in good luck or bad luck, so of course I would.

  8. I would never have worn a used ring or gown.

    I believe that for as something as special as a wedding, you should have new and fresh things to start off your new and fresh marriage.

    The only exception that I would make is if they were heirlooms.  That just makes them more special (if those marriages lasted).

    I would have been extremely upset if my husband had bought me a used ring.  I would prefer a .25 ct new ring over a 2 ct used ring.  Many girls are different...this is just how I feel.

  9. yes I would. I would love to be able to wear my moms wedding gown but unfortunately it will never ever fit me....my mom was tiny when she got married!

  10. sure, why not? I would wear a used dress or ring. It would be nice to have something new but I don't really see a dress or a ring proving anything!? Its certainly not going to make or break our marriage. We love each other and want to spend our lives together. Is the price tag or the status of what I wear going to change that?

  11. I'm sitting here with my daughter and we both have different opinions about the dress.

    She is 27 and said "no" she wouldn't wear a used dress, however, I'm not 27 and I said "yes".  If the gown is cleaned and like new, why not, if you love it?  You didn't say where the gown came from, or the circumstances surrounding it.

    The ring we both agree on, it should be new like your marriage to your fiance.

    Best wishes to you!

  12. I agree it doesn't matter where the dress or ring come from.

    I got my dress of ebay and i was happy with it, also my rings came from a pawn shop and i have been happily married for 8yrs, so if you are happy then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. You know what in fact don't tell anyone or tell everyone look what i picked up and it was half the price.

    I don't believe in bad luck cause it is only bad luck if you pick the wrong guy not what you wear.

  13. Yes, I would.  My engagement ring is actually used.  I didn't even see it before he bought it.  I just knew he was getting a really good deal on it because he was buying it secondhand from a friend.  I ended up loving the  ring and being very happy with it.

    I don't believe that the ring is cursed.  I think the success of a relationship depends on how you treat each other in your day to day life, and has nothing at all to do with the ring or how much the guy spent.
