  1. I most certainly felt the Chino Hills EQ last week while I was driving.  But the car does lessen the effect normally so you're less likely to feel the smaller ones.

  2. It depend on how high the magnitude is. If the magnitude is low than you are most likely not to hear it. If the magnitude was extremely high than you would definently feel it.

  3. My wife was driving during the Loma Prieta earthquake. She thought she had a flat tire and pulled into a parking lot. Another woman pulled in for the same reason, and they realized there had been an earthquake.

  4. Depends on the magnitude.  If it's a minor earthquake, most likely not.  I was riding in the passenger seat when an aftershock hit in the Bay area after the Loma Prieta quake, but didn't feel it.  Larger strength earthquakes you'd definitely feel, like the main Loma Prieta quake.

  5. Cripes, have you seen pictures of downed overpasses from Calif Earthquakes and Kobe?  Have you seen the great cracks and 15 foot subsidences during the 1964 Alaska Earth quake?

I think you might notice if your highway suddenly disappeared under you, or the road in front dropped 15 feet, don’t you?

A Ritcher 8 Earthquake often has a lot of vertical movement – people can be thrown in the air.

But to be fair, a Ritcher 5 can be quite a vibration, but you might not notice in a car.

We had an Earthquake that slopped about 2000 gallons of water out of our pool, while around the other side of the house we felt nothing.

  6. You will feel the earthquake when it is not in motion rather than in motion. But it will be decided by the magnitude of earthquakes and distance from epicenter where you are. The car itself will be shaking during its motion therefore unless it is voilant you can not differenciate the shakings.
