Would you feel comfortable buying a home in Las Vegas considering the water issues out West? ?

I like Las Vegas a lot. I am a first time buyer and want to move there.

But I worry about the city running out of water. Is this a rational worry?

My friend says if water was an issue investors wouldn't be spending

billions of dollars building new casinos.

  1. Water wouldn't keep me from buying a place in Las Vegas right now, what would keep from buying a place in Vegas right now is the rapid, rapid price drops in residential real estate.  I'd be worried that I would buy a place today and in 6 months it would be worth 20% less.  That is a much more immediate concern than water some time in the future.

To give you peace of mind about the water situation, why don't you contact the public utility and find out where their water comes from and what their plan is to deal with the expected population in the future (utilities really do think about these things).

    good luck!

  2. Drought is always an issue, but Las Vegas is such a popular and important city that it would be the last logical place for the water to run out. I might be concerned about moving to some remote part of Nevada, but Las Vegas has so much invested in it that they won't sit back and let it run out of water, even if that means shipping it in by the truckloads.

h**l, they must have enough alcohol there for the entire population to live off of it for centuries hahaha.

  3. water is one of the important thing that you should think of when you're moving. You don't want to have a problem about water for the rest of your life right? Think again my friend..If you're planning to move to another place make sure that the place is the right one that you're looking for.

  4. Vegas is served by the Hoover dam, which holds back the Colorado River, which also supplies most of the water for the entire South West.  Nevada gets first dibs on the water, along with Arizona.

Los Angeles, and San Diego also get most of their water from the Colorado River, and they will go dry long before Vegas.
