Would you feel comfortable eating the fish you normally buy at the supermarket raw?

I know that sushi is made from raw fish..but, at home, would you be okay with just eating the fish out of the package?

sushi is a particular grade of fish.  fish from the supermarket is meant to be cooked and is not sushi grade.   sushi is sushi grade.

Definitely I would eat it. But before I purchased the fish, there are a few signs to look for:

*  clear eyes

*  Fish body still tight (if it is loose-its on his way out)

*  see to much blood

* and the most important is the smell. If it smells like chlorax or very strong viniger Fish is on its way out but-rinse the portion of the fiss with cold tap water

*  Then goe through these steps again.

In the store that is selling fish: I look for lots and lots of ice for keeping it fresh.If the fish still has it skin-lay it right on the ice. For steaks like tuna,swordfish thatwrap, parchment paper. If the non skin is sitting directly had there skin removed , they also can be placed on ice but will require something under it.(freezer

no, you have to buy the raw fish at a japanese store cuz they buy it fresh daily.  i wouldn't trust the supermarkets.

no, i would trust a fishmonger for your sushi quality fish products only. most supermarket fish is not fresh enough to be eaten raw.

usually the fish at publix is very sanitary if i were you i would pan sear it to kill any bacteria on the outside especially if its tuna.. no i would not be fine with it raw out of the package thought

no not at all.. I live on the coast but for some reason our major chain stores don't carry much local fare. just about everything says previously frozen so its probably from china or south america.
