I have been actively fund raising to participate in a 50 mile 3 day walk for The National MS Society. I has been difficult. I have hosted bake sales at home, garage sales, made braceletes, ebayed things, wrote letters, emails to over 200 of our employees. It has been a real eye opener to me..
#1 Just how hard it is raise money for charity
#2 Just how tight my coworkers are. The amazing thing is the one's who really don't have the $$ are the one's who contribute. I have had some but not many considering how big this office is.. and that we are part of a multimillion dollar corporation.
The stinger? I have been fund raising like a made woman.. as said with little to no response.
Last week it was presented to me and the other managers that Mr such and such from our charitble foundation is coming out next month and wouldn't it be nice to present him with a check from our office for our charitble foundation? Lets brain storm.. everyone jumped on the kiss assssss bandwagon and offered to buy things to sell at break time, have raffles, sell sodas cheaper than the vending machine, startbucks cards for raffles and the kicker? A day off with pay to the highest bidder.
I was really offended. Everyone knows my spouse has MS. I have been working very hard to raise funds.. with no response from anyone like this. I am short $500 for my fund raiser and I will not walk if it isn't done.. but hey.. lets sell a muffin to our employees to make a buck for a multimillion dollar charitible foundation...
It hurt really hurt my feelings and I just took the stupid brown noser flyer and tossed it in the round bin.. after all I think that is where my 200 + letters t our employees went when I asked for help.
