Question:

Would you find this offensive?

At my school we did a thing called 'Gifted & Talented', which the people with the 'higher grades' got to join and did fun activities, basicly they were just clever then the rest.

The other people who was not getting their 'higher grades' had to study more while the gifted & talented did fun things.

I find it quite offensive the fact they called it 'Gifted' and 'Talented', basicly saying the rest are not gifted nor talented, they're the people who are under acheiving or who are working at the right level.

  1. Yep, that was a bad idea. Everyone has gifts and talents, but some are not as obvious (or grade-oriented) as others. Hang in there!

  2. No one cares for the mediocre :(

But I wouldn't really be offended

  3. True.

But that's life.  We always have to play by the rules we didn't set and hardly agree with.

It does work though.  The reward is the leisure time and their own reward is the ego that comes from feeling superior to others, based on just being told you are.

  4. it's not really offensive..having that kind of program is a good idea...

the teachers are just encouraging the students to study hard..it's like the teachers are challenging the students to study hard.

    ^_^

  5. i find it offensive because we have gifted and talentedat my school and they dont let low scoring kids do fun things because they think that they will misbehave and be stupid.

  6. Well not really...to be honest with you i do not know how it feels cause im always with the higher group but i haven't really looked at it from you's guys' point of view.

  7. I don't find it offensive at all.

REALITY: Not everyone is gifted and talented. Pretending otherwise doesn't help anyone in the long run.

REALITY: In the real world, hard work and achievement are rewarded.

Maybe this might motivate the under-achievers (who may actually be quite gifted and talented) to achieve their full potential.

  8. ahhh yeah...i hated that back when i was in school..the people with the good grades always got to do fun stuff. At my high school, they payed for all the "talented" to go on a ski trip for free while everyone else was at school..i remember that i got pissed about it and stayed home. So yeah i find it very offensive what your school is doing too.
