  1. The guinea pigs - that's why I have 8 :)

    They are the best rodent.... yes, even better than rats!

    THEY DON'T SMELL ABBY! Have you even had guinea pigs? No!

  2. i prefer hamsters because theyre smaller, cleaner, and more friendly, believe it or not!

  3. yes drawf hamsters are trouble and guinea pigs are nice fun and social

  4. dwarfs don't live that long but i have always liked hamsters more than Guinea pigs

  5. I had a guinea pig once but he smelled horrible but i still loved him! Also I have had dwraf hamsters they are very cute but arent very entrtaining after a while. I say pet rats the person kinda on the top says they arent fun I love mine they are the best robent pets I ever owned!

  6. I would say a pair of guinea pigs (they're social and do better in groups). Why get a guinea pig?

    * They are inexpensive. Guinea pigs themselves are around $20 and food and toys are not much more. I'd say $200 startup fees and $15/month.

    * They don't bite.

    * They like to be petted (just not held)

    * They can be potty trained with persistance.

    * They are easier to clean up after.

    * They make cute little oinky sounds.

    * You can brush them and let them run around on your floor.

    * You can feed them a lot of different fruits and veggies.

    * They live 8 years (5 years longer than hamsters!).

    * They are sociable and actually like people (most).

    * Some can learn to recognize their name.

    * They don't smell bad if you clean the cage regularly.

    * Their lips are CUTE!!

    * They don't chew AS MUCH as hamsters.

    Why NOT to get a guinea pig:

    * Vet bills can be expensive.

    * Cage can get smelly if not cleaned regularly enough.

    * Commercial cages are somewhat expensive.

    * They shed.

    * Most don't like to be held.

    * They are fast and hard to catch.

    * They p**p A LOT!!

    * They chew up anything plastic in their cages.

    * More work than a hamster.

    * More expensive than a hamster.

    Hamsters are also a good choice though

    Why to get a hamster:

    * Very easy to maintain.

    * Some are cuddly.

    * Cute.

    * Love fresh veggies.

    * Inexpensive.

    * Don't smell too bad.

    * If you get a long haired one you can brush it.

    * You can watch them run around in their play balls.

    Why NOT to get a hamster:

    * A lot are aggressive.

    * Hard to find should they escape their cage.

    * Their bites hurt.

    * They are messy.

    * They do not live long (4 years max).

    * Can't be potty trained.

    * Smell bad if cage isn't cleaned regularly.

    * Destructive.

    It really depends on what you want in a pet..do you want something that is cheap, easy to care for, and that you can sorta play with? If cost is an issue, then get a hamster. Do you want something cute, cuddly, but more maintainance than a hamster? Then get a guinea pig.

    On a side note....if you're worried about the cost for a guinea pig cage, don't be! C&C cages are very easy to make, customizable, spacious, easy to clean, and are really cheap to make. Check out http://www.cavycages.com

    ^^ Most people actually recommend C&C cages (including me) over commercial cages because pet store cages are "glorified litterboxes". They just aren't big enough for guinea pigs.

    Hope this helps!

    EDIT: ALSO, I forgot to mention, hamsters are nocturnal so if you want to be awake all night because of your hamster running on his squeaky wheel, then get a hamster. They do not like to be waken up during the day. Guinea pigs sleep at night so you can handle them during the day.
