  1. If you don't have much money, you might want to rethink the whole saltwater tank idea, at least for now.  You want to make sure that the live rock is fully conditioned and ready to be introduced to your saltwater system.  There are also different grades of live rock.  So on the off chance that you get a knowledgeable employee at petco...you can ask them about the live rock.  Or you can shop around other local fish shops to see if you can find a better deal.

  2. i keep hering that, live rock thing, what the (f) is a live rock?

  3. I've bought 3 small rocks there. (They were pretty!)

Personally though - I perfer to buy my live rock online. I recently bought 35lbs for my new setup - Including the shipping it came out to $3.10lb.

That's the cheapest way to go - you might have to cure longer as the rock is only shipped with wet newspaper.

Get some nice base rock online - then supplement it with one or two pieces you get at you LFS/Petco (It's always fun to hand pick the rocks that will be in the front of your display)

  4. Typically it is not cheaper from Petco, if the local fish store you are going to is charging $9 maybe find another one thats close, those prices seem a little high, are you talking in total amount or per pound? Your local fish store also knows a lot more then most of the workers at Petco, so it's better to buy something from someone who knows what they're dealing with.

  5. i've never bought live rock from there but i know people who have and they didn't have a problem with it. if its cheaper i'd say go for it.
