As Canon Xti is slowly disappearing from stores, making way for the upcoming Xs, prices for the Xti hasnt dropped that much, although still about 50-75$ cheaper than the announced price for the xs (699.99$), if you're looking into buying an entry level slr, would you get the Xti now or wait for the Xs and please state your reason why?

  1. This is just my opinion, so here goes.   You can compare the two here---

They are very similar as far as features go, but the XS is about 2 ounces lighter, and uses a different memory card and battery.  It also has live view.

I do not care for live view in a DSLR---no way would I ever hold the camera out in front of me to shoot a picture.   And I don't use a tripod or monopod all that often.

So I would get the XTi, mainly because it has been a very popular model, and is tried and true.  No one knows much about the XS except for what it says about it.

  2. You could get the Xti or wait for the Xs or hold out for the Xyz. Bottom line is your only getting new bells and whistles where as image quality really doesn't change much.

  3. I'd stick with a superior camera, Nikon. But, if I were limited to only Canon, I'd compare models by reading about them here:

  4. Don't worry too much about the camera body you buy ... you will be replacing it in a few years anyway.  Pay more attention to the quality of the lenses you buy for your system .. they will last you for decades.  Nikon for Nikon, Canon for Canon, Pentax for Pentax, etc.
