Assumption:

Earth builds a Spaceship and a suitable planet if found. Colonists would spend 100 Years in suspended sleep until they arrive and start colonizing. Everyone can sign up.

Would you go and colonize a far away planet, knowing that you never could come back and that the target planet may not be THAT good?

Why? Why not?

  1. No.  I'm just not that adventurous.

  2. Ever seen Fire Fly?

Yes. Just to put my name on that list, but also because exploration is awesome, and I think I'd be adventageous to a small group of people.

  3. My first thought was yes.  Then, I started thinking about two aspects of your question - anyone can come and the planet might not be that good.

What if the people who signed up were going for nefarious reasons, and you are the only one who doesn't know what you are signing up for?

I have seen lots of ads for nice resorts and then had my whole holiday ruined because of false advertisement.

    I am staying here.

  4. I would in a heart beat in my current living standards.

If I was married with a family I may think differently.

Now though I would. I already love to travel and see new things and even live there. It would be the ultimate adventure to me, a new world and places to see and maybe even new species!!

I could not turn that down unless I had a family to think of.

I have seen much of the World already so this would be opening a whole new avenue to me and I would not care if I could not return.

  5. after seeing the movie "aliens" i would never agree to that.

i'd just rather fix up this planet and stay here.

  6. Sure. I'm country folk and as the song says "country folk can survive."
