  1. This reminds me of the Kitty Genivieve story from 1964...the exact same thing happened. If I heard her screaming, I'd see what's going on and if I saw her being stabbed, I'd call the cops asap. People probably didn't call because they were scared and some others probably assumed someone else called. Its sad this woman had to die like this due to others who couldn't get over themselves to save her life.

  2. It's not about today or tomorrow or yesterday. This unfortunate incident is simply an example of the bystander effect. The more people that are around the less likely someone is to offer aid. It is sad but it is true and it is nothing new. We all want to think that we would be the one to help but in reality it may not be any of us. Innately we all want to think that someone else will come to the rescue. I read about a woman who was beaten and thrown off a bridge in front of busy traffic and watching people. It happens and the first thing to stop it is to hire more law enforcement! I would like to say that I would be the hero but I know that there is no way to tell. Often in the midst of a tradegy we just freeze up and watch.

  3. Common phenomenon. The more people are in earshot or sight of an event where someone needs help, the less likely the person is to get help.

It all boils down to this: "I'm sure someone else called or will call the police".

  4. One of the biggest problems in America is the "no snitching" idea.  Sure it sucks to turn people in for things that don't really affect you, and I think sometimes people should mind their own business, but in situations where direct harm is done to someone, it is imperative that witnesses be honest and help.  In my opinion, this is one of the biggest problems with society and people with these ideals contribute nothing to society and are a burden on mankind.  I live in Rochester, NY.  About a year ago, a woman was going to see why some children were harrassing her daughter.  She was a good citizen and had a good job, and was honestly trying to help a situation from escalatiing.  Unfortunately she lived in a low income area where most of the residents had adopted this ignorant attitude.  She ended up getting beaten to death in front of like fifty people.  And no one saw a thing.  There were no witnesses to help the police because no one wanted to snitch.  So a year later, no one has been brought to justice for this poor woman's slaying.  It is so frustrating to most people with and ounce of decency.  And most of the people in these areas don't understand that it is thinking like this that brings society down.  It is sad.

  5. Yeah.

  6. I always thought that America is an ideal place to live.  Because of their model 911 rescue emergency. I just can't believe what happen there.  Maybe the police are not doing a good job that's why crime like this happened.  I will help whatever i could, i always want to treat others the way i want them to treat me.  Besides, i can't let the incidence go away without doing anything.  coz i know my conscience will bother me.
