  1. That's pretty crazy.  I probably would not frequent that particular Arby's as long as that manager worked there.  If I knew that he had been in some reprimanded and told that was not okay, then I would feel better about giving them my money again.  Customer service means a lot to me and it can surely make or break my business.

  2. wow! well I've only been there like 3 times in my life, and now Im glad!

  3. Personally I would fire the manager!

  4. That's really sad.  People need to remember that we are all in this together and we should help each other.  Disgusting.

  5. I agree with Wally Z....

its very very sad, but it is true if you give free food out, people will find out and try to squeeze free food out of the restraunt, and it will lose profit, but the manager could have helped them a little bit by offering him a application form or telling him some place he can go...

  6. ask to have the manager fired

  7. I know most people will disagree with it but just about all major chains and small fast food chains will turn down people asking for a handout.   What the manager should have done is had the address of the nearest shelter that he could give the couple.  And what you could have done, as I have, is tell the couple to wait outside while I order a meal for them.  The reason the restaurants  do not give handouts is that it attracts other homeless people to the point where paying customers are discouraged from coming and the store loses money.  They have a sign system where they mark the curb or sidewalk, usually with chalk, at places that give handouts.

It is better to send them someplace to teach them to fish instead of giving them a fish.

  8. Actually I have mixed feelings.  I live in an apartment on the 3rd floor, and I have a great view of a strip mall parking lot where there are always people in the driveways begging for food.  Because I can watch all day if I want, I get a full story on these people.  One guy is in a powered wheel chair.  My experience as a health care provider for the quadriplegic let me know immediately that this chair was not fitted for this man.  He was too tall and too thin.  Sure enough, at the end of the day I saw him power the chair behind a sign, out of view from the street, stand up, count his handful of money, and put it in his backpack strapped to the back of his chair.  He then loaded the chair on the back of a not that old pick up truck and drove away.  I still see him on the other side of the parking lot sometimes, or across the street by the other stores, and that's just one example of this I've witnessed from my balcony.  I'm not saying these people were not genuine, but you just don't know these days.  They could have collected recyclables from dumpsters; there are people going through our dumpsters every day.  They can go to a shelter, a church, any number of legitimate ways of getting assistance.  I have to ask why they aren't.

  9. Manager should be sacked!!  I have never eaten at Arby's and never will.

  10. that's crazy......they should be fired A.S.A.P.

i don't ever eat at Arbys and after that I plan to never eat their in the future.

  11. For sure i wouldn't go back to THAT Arbys because that manager was a jerk! But i wouldn't boycott Arbys all together because a manager at a different Arbys may have handled it differently. Im a manager. Not at an Arbys but i would definitely have done something for them. Some people have no heart and care only about themselves!

  12. The story sounds contrived.. I live in Miami and am confronted with people in teh fast food chains INSIDE begging in line, not for food money, but for BEER money, or Crack money.  I have actually bought food for people only to have them leave it, throw it at me, or throw it in the garbage, They want alcohol and drugs not food.

How did a homeless man and a pregnant girl with no place to go, and likely no transportation disapear in a matter of seconds? I call bunk on the story.

But who woulnd;t feed a pregnant girl> who woulnd't give em a few bucks to get them down the road? who woulnd't let them sweep up?

Beggars might hold up signs or offer to work for food, but when you challenge them to actually do it, they ALWAYS decline... ALWAYS without exception.

  13. Some places have a problem where they have a lot of people coming in trying to get free food.  If word gets out that the restaurant does that they will have a lot more people coming in asking for food.

You might not like me for saying that but,

I am a restaurant manager and I have given plenty of people free food.  It says not to in the corporate policies, but I can't help it.  Even if I have to buy them the food.

If I was the author of that article I would have stepped up there and said I'll buy their food for them.
