I was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and moved to the mainland when I was 9. I absolutely love Hawaii and everything about it, and couldn't imagine being happier living anywhere else.
Now I'm a senior in high school so college decisions are coming up. My grandma died last summer and she owned a gorgeous apartment in Waikiki, literally a minute away from the beach. Now it's in my parent's name so we own it!
The idea of living in my OWN apartment, going to school in Hawaii, and being close to my family (grandparents and aunts and uncles) and the beach is unbelievably amazing to me. Why would I want to live in a small, crowded dorm when I have the opportunity to have my own apartment?
I'm really on track with my education, I'm graduating with honors, have about a 3.8 GPA and plan on above a 2000 on my SAT. My parents say that going to Hawaii will make me lose my focus and that UH is a crappy school. But I think that you can do well no matter where you go as long as you stay motivated.
What do you think? I was planning on staying in Hawaii for 2 years and then transferring back to a more prestigious college on the mainland. Do you think it's a good idea?
Would you do it if you were me? Does living off-campus take away from the college experience? I think it'd be so much fun!
