  1. i go to fun speed shows all the time.. meaning you can go in a tee shirt and jeans and not worry about what your appearance is.

we have them every weekend around here.

..i would most definately go, i went to one that was a charity to help pay for the barn dog's surgery that was over $5000.. everyone loved that dog.

  2. I like the poker rides around here.  We pay 10 bucks to 'enter' and the person who gets the best hand wins.  Then they sell raffle tickets for items that local vendors have donated.  Sometimes they add a 'treasure hunt' to the ride.  That's fun and almost impossible to complete!  You get cash or a door prize for the person closest to completing it.  Last year I won and got a wind chime made of a horse.  Well...not a real horse...just a metal horse shape cut up!

They also sell 50/50 tickets.  The extra proceeds go to a backcountry association that fights for our right to ride and camp and be in the back country with horses.  They fight in congress to keep stupid laws from being passed that eat away our freedom to ride in this country.

The trail trial I am doing this weekend...the proceeds are going for something...but I forget what.  Fat lot of help that was...huh?  I just wanna play around....and hopefully win!

I used to do playdays with my mare...those proceeds could go to a family, trying to raise funds for a new arena, or many different things.  I like these kinds of 'shows' and competitions.  They are fun and people are having a good time.  Not stabbing other competitors in the back...and having a good time.  I prefer them.

  3. I would go. The rescue that I gave you the link to earlier doesn't hold any, but many of the feed stores and business's in my area donate feed, hay, and supplies to the rescues near by. Every year there is a 3 mile trail ride to help raise money and awareness for MS and the rescue actually gets all their rideable rescue horses and rides in the trail ride.

Most of the rescues that do have poker runs actually have their horses out there on display and try and adopt them out THAT day. It's a great way for horse people to meet each other, and an ever better way for these rescues to find loving and good homes.

  4. Yes, I would they are a lot of fun. In my area we have a fun show every year the $ from this show is donated to St. Jude hospital.

  5. I would if it was close and casual enough to not require all the show stress.  Fun shows are good shows when you have a green horse (I do and I am looking for a fun show in my area - they do not exist though..I would have to go 100 miles away)  I do not live in a very "horsey area" so someone holding a fun show probably would not get very many people.  But in other places, I think a show like that would do well if advertised (and it is for a good cause!  Who doesn't want to save horses?)

  6. If it's like the fun shows I've been to I would.  the attire is casual, all rules are bent, and the classes are truly fun....not serious....yes, I love those.

  7. Of course. I go to fun shows all season. They usually cost between 5 and 10 dollars per class. Its also great fun and experience for the horses. A poker run is like a scavenger hunt. Everyone gets a map with clues and you have to find each area specified on the map while trail rideing. At each spot you will find a pile of cards. The point of the game is to collect one card from each spot and try to make the best poker hand possible and bring it back to the finish line. Its a lot of fun.

  8. yeah i guess

  9. i show i would do it :)

  10. Yeah I would if I have a horse, sure. I'm all about horse adoption and rescue. I loved hearing bout the one that went on a few weeks ago for a rescue that is part of one of my yahoo groups. They look like fun and are for a GREAT cause.

P.S. "poker run" is what the rescue called it too LOL, that's what I would call them......

  11. Yes defintly it would be a fantastic experience and jsut great fun!

  12. i would if there was no entry fee and it was close. but it costs a lot of money to prepare for shows so i don't know if it would be worth the money
