The Daily Telegraph are advertising cruises in today's paper, describing the ship as "modern" (built 1948). It sank the liner Andrea Doria in 1956. 46 people died.

  1. just for the experience and adventure..i would go

  2. I would be nervous to go out in a ship that had been in an accident, but it was a long time ago. Maybe they completely rebuilt it? If that is the case, then maybe i would go on it, but I would find out if it is certified by the US coast guard and safety standards.

  3. only if i get a cabin foreward with a sea view.lol

  4. Go with a major cruise line, otherwise it's just like taking an inland flight in Africa. You just don't know whacha gonna get.

  5. She looks a little different today, very modern. Completely overhauled -see a photo and itinery at

A fuller history is at Wikipedia (as usual).

Having not seen the ad in The Telegraph, it wasn't for another ship called SS Stockholm, was it?

  6. Wow... they rebuilt it in a shipyard?  Fascinating.

Ok I just researched it.  So that's the SS Stockholm (aka MS Stockholm).  Rebuilt at a cost of $1 million in 1956.

It was refitted again by Italians in 2001.  When it first arrived back in Italy the public called it "ship of death" (La nave della morte).  It's not exactly a ship I would want to go for cruise on in the hope of a Love Boat style romance tbh.  I reckon she'll end up under the sea at some point.  I fear there may still be weaknesses in the steel from the first collision.

  7. it doesn`t have the appearance of luxury and grace,,,,,

  8. if i was 3 feet away from land

  9. i would not go to sea in that ship

    i would not

  10. the simple answer is, yes, why not, since then its been given perhaps better treatment than most other ships. I am sure those  missing bits have been replaced

  11. Why not...
