Question:

Would you have an abortion in this case?

I will become a gestational surrogate mother either next year or in 2010. I do not want to have any selective reduction or abortions for any reason, period. This is my view and how I feel. On most of the applications the intended parents write down that they would only "depending on severity". If you were ever an intended parent, what severity would make you choose an abortion?

I am going to make sure that it is in the contract that I will not have an abortion for any reason or do selective reduction, even if it includes myself possible losing my life. I am just curious what deformities, diseases or reasons some people would have to have one.

  1. I would only ever get an abortion if my life was at risk, such as a tubal pregnancy.  I would never terminate the pregnancy if the child had a disability or deformity I think that is so cruel.  But yes if my life was at risk if I carried on with the pregnancy then I would get an abortion and in no way would that be easy, but I cherish my life and want to continue on living.  I think what you are doing is a great thing, I don't think I would be able to handle it although I wish I could, it must be an incredibly rewarding experience!

  2. For no reason at all would I ever kill a baby. I think its a good idea to make sure thats in your contract. And i also think its great you are going to be a surrogate, thats something I would never be able to handle, good for you!

  3. I'm hoping someday to also be a GS. I think that I wouldn't put myself in a position to where I would have to have selective reduction. I would ask to put at most 2 fertilized eggs in at a time... that way I wouldn't have to deal with negative consequences.
