Would you have liked IPL if it was 50 overs-a-side game like an ODI?

Did IPL succeed only because it was a shorter version?

Yes of course, that was the whole point of the ipl, quick exciting games. The ipl was aimed to be different as to increase the 'hype' and draw large audiences

Anyway, a 50 a side tournament with 8 teams would have taken ages to complete, that's why the world cup just seems to go on and on and on

No , of course not...IPL's success was the outcome of many new and interesting ideas....like , international players playing for an Indian state/territory...and loadz of celebrities coming in and not to forget the cheerleaders! Since it was an interstate competition , many enthusiastic ppl cheered for their own states and hence,increased the viewership of IPL...of course,there was a lot of showbiz and the marketing was excellent....all these factors contributed for the success of IPL...

On a personal note,i preferred 20-20 as it was shorter and yet as interesting as 50-50 matches...but u cant' completely rule out 20-20 as the reason for IPL's success...it did contribute to some extent...

No...i don't think the IPL wouldv'e been such a success. The IPL was the beginning of a new form of cricket and a richer sport and fan base. That's why it got so much publicity. That's why it was a success. Good question though, a few people haven't really enjoyed the IPL. This would be a good question for them.

Yes.  If it was 50 over match they would not have got the same amount of revenue and the gate collection would also have been less.
