Would you have moved them?

I travelled on a train from Blackpool to Glasgow on friday and had a reserved seat but two drunks were asleep in my seat when I arrived at it so instead of asking them to move or shaking them to wake up I just stood for an hour anda half until Carlisle when I finally got another seat.

Im not a confrontational person so chose not to ask them to move though I would have asked them had they been awake and sober for all I knew they could have stabbed me I mean you read about all the knife crime in the news these days. Oh and there was no one around to ask them to get out for me as the train was mobbed with standing people.

What would you have done?

  1. I would have stood too, with all the crazy people in the world today you couldn't have known if they had a weapon.

    Better safe then sorry.

  2. Dont know about Blackpool  to Glasgow surly  you changed train maybe Warrington??  as you say booked seat tickets I would have looked  in on the  QUIET coach  normally rear of the  rake and empty

  3. I would have waited and contacted the Train Manager or another member of staff. Write to I presume Virgin Train WC or FTPE and explain and complain, at least they are aware and can improve the service.

  4. if your no fast your last! anyway wit did you expect on a train from blackpool to glasgow the full train woudve been pissed!

  5. As you did. There were two of them. They were drunk. No-one around from the Revenue Protection crowd checking tickets when you need them!

Probably best to leave them unconscious, as there would be a load of new problems, were they awake.

  6. You  probably made the best decision ...

  7. I would have gone looking for an official first to move them-there must have been one somewhere on the train? Otherwise I would have left it and written to the train company afterwards complaining about the lack of official assistance and claimed my money back.

  8. Exactly the same.  The only other thing i may have done would be get the Train Manager or Conductor and asked them to do something about it or upgrade you to a different seat at the first opportunity.

What you could do now is write a letter of complaint to I presume Virgin XC stating what happened and how unhappy you was, I would expect at least some sort of compensation back from the company.

It is one of those things unfortunatley that not many of us would be willing to do.

    Good Luck

  9. you should have got one of the train personnel to wake them for you.

  10. I would have got a porter/conducter to move them for me

  11. Well, we might have heard about you in the news.  Man stabbed for trying to sit in reserved seat.

You lived the day.  Chill out and try to forget it.  Stress shortens your life, but not as much as stabbing beating and kicking.  You did the right thing.  Maybe they were reasonable drunks, but you instinctively decided not to find out.  Well done.  Trust your instinctsagain in future too.

  12. can you handle two? if no, let them sleep..

  13. I know where you are coming from and this does my nut in. You reserve a seat and someone is sitting in it. You cannot sit in someone else's seat as then you would be just like the people that are sitting in yours but you do not want to cause a confrontation by asking anyone to move. I think there should be more staff on trains to help to deal with this sort of situation.
