Would you have your favorite pet cat or dog cloned after they pass away?

I just read this article-

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080805/hl_nm/korea_clones_dc

and do not know really how I feel about this story.

What about the huge pet over-population today?

The 'throw-away' society we've become seems at odds with giving much-needed thought to buying the right breed or selecting the right shelter pet. Will this result in even more dysfunctional pet guardianship patterns that ultimately lead to surrendering pets to shelters or outright abandonment? Should every "cloned" animal be grown infertile?

OR are the plans for these cloned "pets" perhaps be that they will become some part of an exotic food dish?

Is cloning right in any form?

  1. No I wouldn't clone my dogs or my cats.  As much as I love them, I would go to the shelter and adopt another one instead.

  2. i would never clone my pet ~ my pet is one and only and noone could replace it ~ i would get another pet from a shelter or somthing but i would never clone it ~ why clone  it if you could give a needed pet a home ~ i dont meen to sould all religeus and stuff but that wasn't gods plane or any thing we are messing with the circle of life

  3. Cloning is right to cure or help diseases of a different being- for example, some selective breeding of human babies (similar to cloning, it uses DNA from the existing person) has provided sick siblings with bone marrow or organs, but the baby itself is still wanted and kept.

Clones as a replacement are generally not a good idea- mentally, to humans, it may cause issues, and physically, the actual results long term in the organs are not known, and this could result in sickly animals.

But I don't think cloning is ever going to become a domestic thing- rather, it's just going to be used to help breed out genetic problems and help exsisting lives, rather than over taking standard breeding- aka, two animals having s*x and creating lives.

  4. I would not clone my pet. In reality you are making an exact look alike. It doesn't mean they are going to have the same personality or temperment that made you favorite pet.
