Question:

Would you hire a babysitter with a visual impairment?

I have worked as a professional nanny for five years now, with many years of babysitting before that. However, I recently suffered an injury that has left me visually impaired. Children are my life, and I have babysat the three year-old of a good friend of mine since my injury, and had no problem taking good care of him, but I'm concerned parents won't want to hire me when they learn that I am visually impaired.

My impairment is cataracts in both eyes and near-sightedness. I can see about five feet in front of me before everything goes blurry, though I can see high contrast shapes from across the room, just not details and if it's white on white or something, I'm likely to miss it.

I don't think my visual impairment effects my ability to take care of one or two children (I wouldn't take on more than that, though), but I'm worried that parents wouldn't even give me a chance.

Would you, and why or why not?
