If someone was saying "the F word" (I actually mean actually writing if someone was saying "he said the F word to me" and not saying the word. Know what I mean?) would you leave it like that or hyphenate it or what??

  1. If I'm writing something then I usually write it like "That effing dog" or something similar.

  2. If you just want to make the point that the person used the word, "he said the F word to me" makes sense. If you want to say what the person actually said, you could say "he said f*** off / f*** you".

You don't need to hyphenate it.

  3. Grammatically, no, you don't hyphenate it. It should be "the 'f' word" since the 'f' is specifying which word you mean.

A list of rules for hyphenation can be found at:

    http://www.grammarbook.com/punctuation/h...

You can see that hyphenation really doesn't apply in this case.

  4. FIRST I WOULD HAVE TO SAY THAT I WOULD NOT BE TELLING ANYONE WHAT HE SAID OR HOW HE SAID IT. I WOULD JUST HAVE TO GIVE HIM A TASTE OF HIS OWN MEDICINE. AND IT WOULD DEPEND ON WHO YOU ARE TALKING TOO IF YOU WOULD HYPHENATE IT OR NOT..
