PLEASE GIVE DETAILS, what companies might be good for investing right now that might end up being a good long term investment. Maybe Ford (Stock Symbol "F") or GM (Stock Symbol "GM")?

  1. IF I were investing in a car company, Tata would be on my short list. India's economy is right behind China's, and for similar reasons. While in europe or asia's Pacific rim, things are too tight with too many people for everyone to have cars. But while a large part of India's population is urban, there is something akin to the American experience, the cities are spread out and rural folk don't always have easy ways to get to town. Suppose you got a cushy computer or phone center job (at their standards, in the US the wages are only at or slightly above working at McDonalds). The freedom and prestige of a car is awesome. With something close to a billion folks finally coming into some serious above-subsistence cash, what if you were selling them some good but still comparatively inexpensive wheels?

Here in the US, I might touch Ford or GM if you gave it to me, but I'm not in any hurry to put them on my buy list anytime soon. Tata sells buses and inexpensive cars in a spread-out place that needs and wants them. Sounds really good to me.
