even if it meant returning home to nothing at all

OR would you risk your life to save what precious little you had??

This is so typical of our Indian farmers:

"I'll come if you take my cattle," said Maya Devi, 64, who perched in a tree picking leaves to feed her animals, prompting laughter from the crowd at the thought of a water buffalo in a rubber dinghy."

Humour in the face of adversity......

Whats more, am pretty sure she hasn't eaten for days...but will persist in climbling trees to pick leaves to feed her cattle.

  1. The older I get, the more I hate to but I would.  I've "started over" several times in life and each time I'm better off after a while.

Sometimes to move ahead, you have to turn your back on everything old and begin again.  Its scary at first but in the end it is often a good thing.

Of course parting with animals is hard...just find them another loving home before you pack up.  There are other animals who are waiting for you and your old ones will learn to love their new owners.

Always be willing to move on when its necessary.  New adventures await!

Is she in a position to 'start over', could she eat,  would she become  homeless ?

I think she's being canny ..Her stubbornness may make someone do just that..save her livelihood!

  5. If that's all I had and that was all I knew, and it was my only way of life, there's no way I'd just walk away from it all.

Although I doubt I'll ever be in that position, so it's hard to say how I would react to it.

  6. Yes i would but that lady is from a different country with a totally different culture.

That is why we are here - to take care of the Animals.

  9. Well if you decide to live on plains that get flooded every monsoon season what do you expect?

  10. I'd def leave all my possessions behind, but animals are more difficult, even if I had to leave them behind, I'd want to get them to safety first.

And when it comes to livestock and farmhouses, I suppose some people see these things as being what their life is made of, and so they can't see that leaving that life behind will ultimately save them, but I would:)

  11. Babe h**l no i'd leave everything to save your life at the cost of my own.

  16. I would not leave whilst there was a realistic chance of saving those things that provided me with my daily sustenance, however once that time had passed I would leave, albeit reluctantly.

As far as this story is concerned, people in the west do not understand that when ones livestock is gone there is no insurance company to step in and replace the lost cattle or help from the government to start up again.

Not only do I understand this woman ........ I applaud her!
