Would you let an 8 year old watch Steve Wilkos?

The other day I was watching The Steve Wilkos show about a child molester (I was unaware he was until 2 minutes into watching). I told my cousin he should go in the other room, but he stayed anyways and watched the show. After a while I told him again and he did go into another room.

On one hand, I am glad he saw it because it shows that he needs to be safe and shows him the reality of the bad world. On the other hand, it had bad language.

  1. Of all the cartoons he could be watching, not the Steve Wilkos show. Anything is better. Yea he needs to be safe, but find another way to teach him.

  2. depends on what he is talking about

  3. no its a good show but not approriate for an 8 year old

  4. Well to be honest as his cousin you weren't really the one to make judgement on this and perhaps should have turned it off completely. Really his parent/guardian should be the one who discusses issues like this with him and they would probably do it in a more age related and sensitive manner than Steve Wilkos.

  5. Well Steve Wilkos talks about what is right.

When he is insulting a child molestor and your 8 yr old is watching -- then he'll know what to do if someone tries to touch him.

He'll probably ask what "molestor" means and you can tell him!

Just don't let him watch the ones about drag queens and when the girls/guys are flashing.

Let him watch the ones that will be a benefit to him.

  6. yeah, let him watch it.  then expect a phone call from his teacher explaining how that kid threw a chair across the classroom.

  7. I believe that for anyone under the age of 14, that the show is completely inappropriate. At 8, he should be aware of strangers, but not what they do. He should be enjoying his summer with his family and friends and not have to worry about child molesters.

  8. I don't think that show is appropriate for an eight year old. Steve and his guest use some explicit language and Steve yells, A LOT.

  9. Pancakes, I think the show is not suitable for an 8 years old. The way the information is presented is also not the best way to explain a kid about safety.

  10. I wouldn't let my 80 yr old grandma watch it.

    The show is pure c**p!

  11. WHOOOOOA no. no effing way.

there are other ways to educate a child on the dangers of adults. its not as bad as jerry springer, but its definitely not appropriate for an 8-year-old. even i find that it is excessive for ME to watch...

you don't want your cousin to learn that when he feels someone does something wrong that he has the right to jump in their face and cause a VERY inappropriate confrontation. and imagine your aunt or uncle coming back to you demanding how your cousin KNOWS about "Jay, the child molester who...." they are way too descriptive on that show...

    man. no
