Would you let your 16-year-old son hang out with a 34-year-old friend. Why or why not?

I dont have a child but if i did it would depend on how resonsible the 34 year old was. if they were irresonsible and we always partying and drinking then of course not. but if they have the ocational drink and i could trust them then yes. if your parent says no then they do it out of love and know whats best for  you.

Oh h**l no. No matter boy or girl, there is something seriously wrong there. What in the world does a 34 year old have in common with a 16 year old?

If it was my kid, I would not let that happen...period.

Most definately not.

Extended conversations between the two would not be on the same maturity level.  Personally (I am 40), I don't have too much in common with my sons 16 year old friends and for me to spend more than a few minutes chatting with them would turn into me going into babysitter mode.  I would want to make snacks and start lecturing them on the importance of school and staying away from drugs, etc.

I can't see where this would be appealing for the youngster, or myself for that matter.  Also, and this is yucky to bring up, but some older people are predators and are looking for impressionable young ones to take under their wing.  It satisfies some creepy need to feel superior/important so the kid will look up to them.  Usually that's when the bad things happen.  

It's best to have the child stick to others their own age.

all depend sif i could trust him, and if the 34 yr old was a girl or a boy, that depends too!

i'd be wary.  what does a 34 year old want with a teenager?  what could they have in common?  that said, you cant stop them being mates if they are determind - just keep an eye out, and have a word in this persons ear.  if the relationship makes you uneasy, let it be known that you are watching them.
