  1. We live 2 blocks from school and I would never let my child ride a bike or walk to school by herself. On occasion she has done it with a friend but mostly I walk her myself.

I trust my daughter completely it's other people that I don't trust. You never know.

  2. all depends on the traffic and road conditions,12

  3. I rode a bike to school when I was eight. My mom trusted me because she taught me the rules of the road and how to be safe on a bike. Granted, the school was only a mile from our house, so there wasn't that much of a danger, but I think if your child is responsible and sensible, they should be allowed to ride a bike to school.

  4. At an age where they carry a cell phone with them at all times.

  5. I was allowed to ride my bike to school when I was 10. Before then I was taken to my dad's office (which was halfway between home and school) and I walked the rest of the way to school. However there was no huge FEAR factor in the 1970's - nothing like there is now.

I would say definitely by High school , and maybe by grade 7 since if the kid can handle it and theres not too many major roads to cross.

"I trust my daughter completely - its other people I dont trust."

So this attitude means you BABY your kids right up to age 18. No wonder there are so many whiners and stupid young people in college because they were over protected as kids. You may claim to trust your kids - but really you dont or you WOULD let them ride their bikes when they ask. Certainly by high school.

I have this thing about being responsible - and parents who GIVE IN to this PC attitude of dont let the kid go anywhere -  means you are teaching your kids to be babies when they graduate high school - is NOT responsible.

I refuse to give into the PC bullies.

  6. I don't live close enough so I haven't had to worry about this. But with they way the world is now, I would never let my child ride anywhere by themselves. It's just not safe, no matter what age they are. I live in a very small town and you would never think kidnappings would happen around here. The small town next to me had a 13 or 14 yr old kidnapped and held in an underground hole for ten days. She got off the school bus and was walking down her road by herself when she was snatched by this crazy man. You just never know. Keep your kids safe!

  7. At 18 you can begin to trust that they will be safe. Until then, better to be "overprotective" than childless.
