i haven't watched Survivor for a while. i'm sure it is still one of the best reality TV shows out there, but i have just gotten tired of the same old scenery. it always seems like they are at some kind of tropical forest or beach (unless if i have been so out of the loop on Survivor that i didn't notice that they changed the scenery). so here is my question

would anyone want to see Survivor be set in an icy place instead of a forest or beach?

i'm sure Survivor won't do this anytime soon because of rating, the tropical scenery gives so many more sexier possibilities than ice does.

  1. Yes

This season is back to Africa

  2. Yes, I'd like to see many changes, personally.  Especially with the types of people they've been typecasting onto the Island.

Not like the good old days, when we had a wide variety of ages, occupations, people, etc.

Now it's just bikini and pec city!

But this season's locale is a change.  At least it's in Africa.. (Gabon)

    - Not as dry and dusty as Season #3..

I live in a cold climate (in winter)!  One of the things I don't think I could take would be the cold.. Not as ideal for casting and production, either but I know what you mean.

    Sept. 25th, yeah! :)

  3. I've asked myself the same question.  The problem, however, is that you can't really "survive" in such a cold place.  They would have to provide them with lots of clothes and a way to build a proper shelter and they'd have to provide food, as it's way too hard to find anything growing and edible and in enough supply, growing in winter.  And once you start adding all those things that production has to provide, then it kind of takes away from the point of having the show.

Then, of course, you have to consider all the camera people and production people that would have to endure the cold as well.  And too many possible ways of getting hurt or sick.  Liability would be too high.  It's just not worth it for them.

Survivor has had different settings though.  They took the show to Africa in Season 3, so they were out in the desert (and had to be given water, of course).  This season (Season 17), they are also going back to Africa (Gabon), except they will be on the coast this time.  In season 15, they went to China and were by a large lake, I believe.  Of course, the natural surroundings there were quite different than other seasons as well.

They have been to the Pearl Islands twice (seasons 7 and 8- All stars) and they've been to the Micronesian Islands - Palau twice (seasons 10 and 16 - Fans vs. Favs), but other than that, they've been different places each time and each place has it's own type of plants and trees and water and I think it's different enough.  But that's just me.
