Would you like to see the winners of the 6 nations play the winners of the tri-nations in an annual match?

A possible match between the winners of the Tri Nations and the Six Nations champions will reportedly be discussed by the International Rugby Board, with representatives of the four home unions plus France, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand all set to meet with IRB chairman Bernard Lapasset and deputy Bill Beaumont this weekend.

Would you like to see this? What is your opinion on it- should it be played at a neutral venue if it materialises and will it be beneficial to rugby?

Also, do you think a match between the winners of the Heineken Cup and the winner of Super 14's should play a match?

  1. I think it's a great idea and a great way to promote rugby in Asia. I'd be p***ed off if i was Argentinian though. They came third in the world cup, and are third in the IRB rankings and would be left out again.

At least if the Heineken Cup winner played the S14 winner it might give  the Argentinian players a chance. Good idea

  2. No need. The tri-nations teams tour heaps. NZ will be touring the home nations at the end of the year and possibly smashing the living christ out of the poodle too if we get the chance.

The lions tours are also a traditional means of mixing it up between N and S. Pro rugby has devalued the lions tours enough as is. (used to come down to NZ for months at a time a play heaps of little teams). Tours should be about more than television dollars and cents. How about playing the game with  young people who actually play the game, and doing it for free?

Super 14 is a very different game to HC rugby. It would be a horrible game to watch.

A SANZAR touring team similar to the Lions concept would be interesting, but tour developing nations like USA, Canada,  etc.

  3. Actually no....i wouldn't.. Don't know why but i think there is too much rugby being played anyway...and usually the winners of one competition playing the winners of another...proves absolutely nothing and are usually dire, due to their end of season/ beginning of season nature. International teams usually put everything into winning the six nations and if they win it that should be enough. They shouldn't have to go and prove how good they are three or four months later..out of season, with everyone carrying injuries and basically knackered.

It would also do immense harm to the reputation of both tournaments.

Why don't the tri nations just let Argentina in if they want more matches for goodness sakes.

  4. yep i agree!

6 nations winners v  tri nations winners - the winner for this match will sort of be the best international team in the world

Heineken cup winners v Super 14 winners - the winner for this match will sort of be the best club in the world.

  5. I don't see much need to schedule an annual match between the winners of the Tri-Nations and Six Nations.  There's already a lot of touring going between northern and southern hemispheres.  Chances are it'll happen anyway.  How about a match between a combined Six Nations vs Tri-Nations?  Virtually a northern vs southern hemisphere game, but might be fun.

I would like to see a match between the winners of the Heineken and Super 14.  That might be pretty interesting.

  6. I think it will happen and should be played in an emerging nation so that the game can be promoted.

  7. They should just make it into one big tournament – The 9 Nations.

  8. The Tri- nations already owns the Six nations in giving them  hidings year in year out  Lol!!!! . Just think of what the super 14 champ will do the heiniken cup champ if they were to play? Not a pretty site.ho,ho,ho,ho,ho!!!

  9. Wow i think thats an awesome idea. South Vs North who would win?

  10. Yeah that would be good....

  11. i think that it would be quite an interesting game
